Hank’s Bagels has set a new bar for what a neighborhood bagel shop can be. The bagels come out with that perfect balance of crisp exterior and chewy interior that only happens when dough is treated with care and baked at the right temperature. Each variety has its own personality, but the standout has to be the bialy. It is not easy to find a bialy done right in Los Angeles, and Hank’s delivers something special. The dough is tender and flavorful, but what makes it extraordinary is the filling of caramelized onions, deeply browned and sweet with just enough savory edge to keep you coming back for another bite. It is the kind of flavor that lingers and makes you want to plan your next visit before you have even finished the first one.
The staff here is consistently excellent, which matters just as much as the food. They are quick to answer questions, happy to suggest favorites, and somehow keep the line moving fast without making you feel rushed. The atmosphere is casual but warm, and it feels like the kind of place where regulars get remembered and newcomers feel welcome. The spreads, from scallion cream cheese to smoked salmon options, all taste fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Every sandwich is layered generously, so you get a real meal rather than just a snack. Hank’s is not just about grabbing breakfast on the go; it is about enjoying a crafted experience. If you are serious about bagels, or just serious about good food, this is a place worth returning to...
Read moreThe bagels are actually pretty good! Not the best in LA, but that’s a tall order! The thing that really irked me is customer service and quality. I picked up my bagels today, and in one of the bagels I found a short curly black hair baked right into it. Thankfully it was stuck out a bit so I didn’t accidentally eat it. I brought it right back in and showed the person behind the counter, and she could not have cared less. She also didn’t apologize and just asked what other bagel I wanted, as the variety I ordered was sold out.
So you’re not a little shocked or apologetic - is this a common occurrence here? I got a new bagel but it kind of ruined my appetite 🤢 Yes we all have hair, but I don’t want a stranger’s body hair baked into my food! I get mistakes happen, but maybe apologize at least? Throw in a free, hopeful hair free bagel, or maybe a discount on next order? Or really anything that says, hey that was a gross mistake and I’m sorry. I would have been super happy with the apology and wouldn’t have written the review if even that was done!
I think I’ll continue to go to my favorite bagel place in the future, even if it is out of the way. Great hair free bagels and their customer service is top notch! The name of this amazing place actually rhymes...
Read moreI'm obsessed with this tiny bagel shop! Tucked away in a quiet corner, this unassuming gem serves up some of the best bagel sandwiches I've ever had.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the lox and tuna. The lox is smoked to perfection, with just the right amount of saltiness and a velvety texture. The tuna bagel sandwich is made with fresh tuna and mixed with just the right amount of mayo and seasoning.
But what really sets this shop apart is the quality of the bagels themselves. Chewy, dense, and with just the right amount of crunch, they're the perfect vessel for the delicious fillings.
I've tried several different sandwiches here, but my go-to is the Classic Lox: sliced lox, cream cheese, capers, and thinly sliced red onion on a toasted everything bagel. It's absolute perfection.
If you're a bagel lover like me, do yourself a favor and seek out this hidden gem. Your taste buds...
