I got the spicy chicken teriyaki (my personal default) combo with the four piece gyoza. I came in after lunch around 1:45pm after calling in my order. I picked up my order, paid, thanked the staff and left. It was a nice day, so I drove down to a park to enjoy the weather while I ate. The plating was three quarters rice, one quarter salad with the chicken on top of the rice. Portions were pretty generous. I would say there was about three chicken thighs worth of meat on there. The chicken was a little messy in its arrangement, but it may have been jostled on my journey down. It did look like the chicken was tossed in a sauce after cooking, as the cut sides of the chicken were colored by the sauce pretty consistently. But that also could have come from an additional application of sauce once the chicken was plated. The chicken itself was great. It had a little bit of char on it (as it should) but wasnt overcooked. It could’ve had a little more char on it, but what I got would suffice. I wouldn’t describe it as juicy, but it was not dry whatsoever. The sauce coating the chicken was sweeter than what I was used to, but balanced out well with the rice. They gave me an additional sauce cup that I put on top. That sauce was unusually thick, and took some work to get mixed/spread over the chicken. I honestly don’t even think it was necessary for me to use it, but it was fine. The chicken was good, bordering on great. The rice took up enough of the sauce to imbue it with some of its tasty flavor making the rice experience quite pleasant. The grains were of a medium to medium-short variety which is pretty typical of most teriyaki establishments. The rice didnt show any signs of it sitting in a rice cooker too long nor did it show any signs of overcooking. The rice stuck together in clumps pretty well even after absorbing some of the sauce. Overall the rice was good. The salad was of the iceberg mix variety with a few slivers of carrots in it, again pretty typical. Like it came from a grocery store pre-mix bag. Not that its a bad thing. The dressing was medium thickness, sweet and slightly acidic. It was pretty comparable to most teriyaki restaurants. The gyoza were fried well, and had a nice crispy shell. The shell itself did not show signs of freezer burn and had nice blistering from frying. The filling felt pretty average but that is saying that I still enjoyed it very much. The dipping sauce for the gyoza was not too soy sauce heavy. It had a nice acidity likely from a mirin or a rice wine vinegar and a touch of sesame oil for flavor paired very well with the dumplings. The meal was expensive though, I was out the door $21 poorer (not including tip). Now this could totally be my fault for not looking at the reciept or menu more closely, but I was expecting the charge to be more like $18 based on the images of their menu on google. However, they dont have a spicy chicken teriyaki + gyoza item on their menu specifically though they do have one thats teriyaki + 3 gyoza + 1 egg roll. So maybe I was charged a non-combo price. Overall, 8/10 experience on the meal. The price knocks down a point and the chicken not being fresh sliced does as well. But it still gets 5 stars because its great. Theres nothing wrong here and they get most everything just the way it should be. I would recommend this spot to anyone...
Read moreTeriyaki is my least favorite food, but I suddenly got a craving after getting my second covid shot, so I stopped by Buxx on the way home. I've always heard good things about this place from my friends, and it honestly didn't disappoint!
I just ordered the #1 chicken teriyaki to go and it included so much food for a great price. I love that they were able to throw in some extra salad dressing that I asked for because there's something about teriyaki shop salad dressing that hits different...
Food came out pretty quick, in ~10 minutes and this was around dinner time. I finished the entire meal and felt so much better. If I'm ever feeling sick/needing some comfort food, I'm...
Read moreWe had shrimp Teriyaki and chicken and beef combo Teriyaki. Both very good, the shrimp was slightly over cooked which is not bad but my preference is for it to be less dry like. The beef/chicken combo was very good, the chicken very tender with the just right amount of char giving it a very nice flavor. The beef was extra tender and tasty as well. I would come back to this place as service was good, service with a smile. The food came within a reasonable amount of time, not a long wait. Tables were nice and clean, no film residue which is pleasant to find. Nice neighborhood...
