First visit here. Went there on a Thurs. night, meeting with a friend. Easy, free street parking after 6pm. My first impression when I arrived, many people come here! Place is very busy, take-out, and many dine-in. Easy sign-in at tablet to wait for table seating, option to send either email or text message, I opted for text message and got the confirmation text. Out front through window is a large TV monitor which showcases their menu (nice to be able to view it). I knew what I wanted to order before being seated, the Signature Curry Katsu. The seating is appropriate for a small place, booths and tables. It was a little loud from all the people talking, and reflecting off the tiled booths.
Food came out quick, and presented exactly as in the photo menu. At first I didn't see the 'gohan' (rice), but it was underneath the shredded 'kyabetsu' (cabbage). Rice was perfectly cooked. I tasted the curry sauce, and oh man, it was superb, small, finely chopped vegetables, I think onion, carrot, potato which melded into the curry to give it a nice texture, but the flavor was just fantastic, as it was a little sweet and mildly spicy, bursting with umami flavors! The Katsu had a very nice, crunchy coating, and that was also very good, it was cooked tender and lightly drizzled with Tonkatsu sauce. I used my fork to cut it into bite size pieces while, dipping and swirling it in the curry sauce. The small scoop of potato salad was a nice complement as well, and I thought it was just a tad salty, but it was still very good. I think the saltyness comes from the Japanese pickled cucumber (tsukemon) that was mixed into it, again this is very authentic Japanese. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and went very well with a Kirin Ichiban Beer 'Kanpai!'. Definitely recommend this place, and hope to come back soon and try their...
Read moreCurry Hyuga had long been on my culinary radar, and today, I finally had the chance to experience it. The occasion arose as I needed to pick up my partner at SFO later, and given the mere 10-minute drive from the restaurant to the airport, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to satiate my appetite and make the most of my time, rather than aimlessly circling around the airport. Conveniently, there are numerous public parking lots scattered throughout the town.
The restaurant opens its doors at 11:30 am, and I arrived promptly at 11:25 am, only to find a queue already forming outside, as depicted in the photo. The attentive server, Yuki promptly greeted each customer and kept my water glasses filled, setting a positive tone for the dining experience.
Opting for their Signature Curry Rice Entree, which features their caramelized onion curry accompanied by shredded cabbage, creamy potato salad, and Fukujin pickles, I decided to elevate my meal by adding Chicken Cutlet Katsu Curry with Chicken Karaage as additional toppings. To my amazement, my order was delivered to my table in a mere 3 minutes, which left me thoroughly impressed. Curry Hyuga's standout feature is their incredibly tender meat, perfectly complemented by their mouthwatering curryâa true masterpiece with Kanazawa-style sweetness and richness that sets it apart.
To further customize your dish, they offer a selection of five different spices: Ichimi Togarashi, Jalapeno Pepper, Pequin Pepper, Wiri Wiri Pepper, and Orange Habanero. I had the pleasure of sampling all of them, and personally, I found the Wiri Wiri Pepper and Orange Habanero powder to be standout choices. Their spiciness elevated the curry to a whole new level, complemented by the unique fragrance of...
