Dined in alone Monday 1145 a. There are two dining rooms separated by a bar and register in the middle. They were only seating the north side dining room, which was nearly full.
I was seated, they brought water with the mandatory Mexican restaurant chips and salsa. I ordered the daily special, which for Monday was chimichanga with beans and rice, your choice beef or chicken. I ordered chicken.
The chips and salsa were interesting. They chips were room temperature and looked like they were not made in house. But they might have been because they tasted excellent and had no salt on them. The salsa was thicker than most you are served and had no chunks of vegetables in it. It was almost like a thin spicy marinara sauce. But the chips and salsa were good even if decidedly different from what most Mexican restaurants serve.
As I looked around, there is a sign above the food window. A professionally made sign that's made to blend into the wall around it and become part of the decor. You might see something like this in a church that says "God is King" or in a someone's private residence "Bless this home". However this sign said something to the effect of "we made every order individually from scratch, so if you feel you food wait is a bit longer it's because we care" . Those may not be the exact wording but it was something similar.
If you've read any of my reviews I feel strongly that if you have a special, over lunch especially. It should come out quick. Well this place gets that. My chicken chimichanga plate was on my table in like 4 minutes.
The food looked visually appealing and tasted great. The facility was clean, modern and had appropriate decor. The staff were polite and professional. The price was reasonable.
Overall a great small town Mexican restaurant. I will definitely return to eat here and encourage those driving thru town to give it a try... as for for sign above the food window, that's just good business. Always under promise and...
Read moreCilantro's is one of Burlington's three Mexican restaurants, each of which has their own strengths. Cilantro's has room to seat large groups (our dinner group has up to 24), and they also have outside patio seating if you like. Their service is great, as are their 99-cent margaritas on Taco Tuesday. They have a full bar and varying meal specials. The menu is large, and everyone including kids, should be able to get something they'll love. Food taste is good, and my biggest complaint is that their name is Cilantro's, but they have no visible cilantro in their salsa, something I LOVE. Free chips and salsa come before any meal. Despite having a large free parking area, their crowds frequently bleed out into the street to park. Since they are a couple blocks off of US-75, they may not be noticed by highway traffic passing through, but they are worth the stop. I specifically recommend the "Choripollo" meal (chicken with chorizo sausage smothered with...
Read moreRestaurant was not busy but it took over 10 minutes for the waiter to come and take our order. Appetizer came out quickly and was very good (chips and queso). When main dishes came out, 2 of the 4 orders were wrong, and the chips in the Nacho Supreme were extremely stale (odd since the chips in the appetizer were great). We ordered some more chips and queso while we waited and it didn't come out for a long time. When we asked a waitress about it she was VERY rude, saying if we asked for it it was on its way. Then we heard her talking to our server asking if he forgot. He brought the queso, not the chips. The 2 orders took about 20 minutes to be remade. My parents, who have eaten there often, said this waitress is always very rude, but the food is usually better and the service is...
