Let me start by saying we made a mistake not reading a sign near the front door. It wouldâve saved us a world of confusion.
Weâre visiting from Florida & based on opinions of others we decided Go Fish Sushi sounded delicious. And what a cute name! Love it. So darling. And I will say that for gambling on mid-west sushi, it paid off. Everything was delicious. 5/5 stars for the quality of the food.
Back to my review.. Remember, we didnât see the sign (small sign about knee height.) completely missed it walking in. We were not greeted. I asked if we could sit anywhere we liked & the hostess replied âyou can sit while you figure out what you want & then come to the counter to order.â Okay cool. We sat to figure out the menu. Every table had a bottle of soy sauce. I ordered crab Rangoon roll, California roll, spicy tuna roll, and the Philadelphia roll. For beverages I ordered three waters & a draft Sapporo. The hostess stated sheâd bring our beverages to the table. She then delivered three bottles of water (not glasses of water) & my beer in a glass. We then realized weâd paid for water. We enjoyed the simple atmosphere while we waited for the food. One customer came in to pick up a take out order. Another came in & sat down at a table nearby. (Whom proceeded to eat at his table.) Our hostess delivered our meal bundled up in take-out fashion. This was confusing (because we hadnât seen the little sign.) I then stated to the hostess that we intended to dine in & were in need of service wear. Plates, silverware, etc. She replied âwe donât do that.â Puzzled I said âwe canât have a few plates?â while pointing at their obvious stack of small plates. This would have been a very good moment for her to kindly apologize & let us know that they were take out only for lunch. Nothing. Just a reluctant smirk while handing me three little plates & soy sauce dishes. My spouse now noticing the backside of the little sign said âwhy does your sign say take out & dine in?â One of the two gentlemen replied âcuz youâre only looking at the back of the sign.â By then we were already opened up & divvying up the sushi. So they reluctantly let us continue. We were still confused until we looked at the front if the little sign which clearly stated âtake out only.â
There were two opportunities for kindly reminding us they were only offering takeout - at the beginning when asking about a table & then again once we asked for plates. Our hostess failed in that regard & acted very indignant & snobby. We feel bad because of our mistake, but the customer service was sub-par by...
Read moreI stay nearby a few times a year and I was excited to find a sushi place to try nearby. Sadly, as quite a few people experienced recently I wasnât able to partake in Go Fish and based on my VERY limited exposure I wonât attempt it again. Per their Facebook, which serves as their website, dinner hours begin at 5:00. I walked in to order dinner (takeout) at 5:04 one table of two was in the restaurant and I was instantly asked if I had a reservation. When I said no, I had stopped in to order takeout I was told that the earliest availability was 7:00. I demurred and stepped out of the restaurant at 5:07. While I cannot comment on the food, based on my 3 minutes there I have several observations/recommendations. âReservation onlyâ should be expressed visibly/frequently on their FB page. The process for takeout orders should also be easily found; a two hour wait 4 minutes after opening for dinner seems extreme. Can dinner orders be placed at lunch or during in between hours? This isnât clear. The door latch seemed to stick, I admit this could be user error or because it was cold/wet but I had the same issue upon entering and exiting. There was a space heater/fan on the floor just inside the door that seemed out of place and a bit hazardous given the recent snow. Finally, and most importantly, the lack of greeting and brusque inquiry about a reservation, and the communication about take out left a lot to be desired in...
Read moreService: Excellent. Restaurant was clean and the drink selection was good. Appearance was modern and tasteful.
However, I want to love the food when I eat out and that is why I am giving this low stars. I love sushi and Iâve eaten it frequently and in a variety of places in the US and Hawaii. They arenât all good, but some are amazing. Go Fish Sushi rates low on flavor, the rolls fell apart, the presentation was poor. Wasabi was too strong and they served the entire tableâs orders mixed together so we had no idea which rolls were which. we ordered individually table of 4 so serving all the rolls mixed together was not okay. Waitress did not ask if that was okay either. My rolls were smaller than they would have been had I not requested shellfish free. Iâve never experienced a lacking roll because of a shellfish avoidance. And I always tell them and thatâs never happened before.
The prices are reasonable and affordable which was nice.
At the end of the day, it just didnât taste great and that is the biggest factor for my low rating.
Honestly a 2.5 is fitting, but there are no 1/2...
