Gave this place a few tries. The owner was really nice and so was one of the other guys there. There is one person however that seems to be just pretending to be a butcher. A shorter guy with dark facial hair. I make beef marrow bones A LOT. They have to be split down the middle. The first time I asked him to do it, he said it’s too dangerous and they don’t do that there. The taller thin guy in the back said he would do it and it wasn’t a problem. Another time, I wanted a pigs head to roast. The first time, he gave me a rotten head. And he KNEW it was bad. He washed it and wrapped it VERY quickly and asked me a few time “it’s ok”? I got it home, opened the plastic, and the smell hit me right away. The owner, when I called him, said come back and I’ll give you a new one. VERY cool. Then I come back, and the same guy gives me a wild boars head. I didn’t notice until I got him and saw the tusks. I tried making it but it was VERY gamey and tough. The last time I went in, the short guy again refused to cut the bones. That’s what the band saw is for. I’m not a butcher and I’ve cut them AT HOME on my own band saw plenty of times. A butcher shop with a butcher who doesn’t butcher, well, I’ll spend my money at LaFreidas in NY and Green...
Read moreBeen getting my meat here since 2018, and since then they’ve gone extremely downhill. 3 of the last 4 times I was there, they sold me day-old ground beef and sirloin, it was all brownish and smelled funky when I got home and opened up the bag. Fresh ground beef should be bright pink, this stuff was all discolored and cleary old. So I returned the 12 lbs of ground beef, and had them grind up some new stuff in the basement just to trust that it was fresh. Then the next trip they sold me some beat up old sirloin, clearly a day-or-two old by the stench, didn’t have time to get back there and return it the same day, so just threw it in the trash. Then today, I go to buy 2 ribeyes and had them cut off the bone. Was expecting to pay around $45-50 bucks, but they charged me $70, saying they charge for the weight of the bone too, even after it’s cut off. I wound up paying for 2.8 lbs of ribeye when there was only probably 1.8-2 lbs of actual steak in the package. That is an absurd business tactic and extremely low class. Total ripoff these guys have become, nickel and diming good-paying customers like myself. Sad to see. Won’t ever buy...
Read moreCogman’s is hands-down the best butcher around! Everything they offer is top-notch, from their fresh meats to their incredible premade foods. I’m obsessed with their chicken salad—seriously, it’s the best I’ve ever had. My husband can’t get enough of their macaroni salad either. We recently tried their chicken burger, and wow—so flavorful and juicy! You can truly taste the difference in quality compared to supermarket meat. We always stock up on their chicken and ground beef because it’s just that fresh and delicious.
The team at Cogman’s is amazing, too. The guys behind the counter are always friendly, helpful, and happy to answer any questions. You can tell they care about their customers and what they do. If you haven’t checked them out yet, do yourself a favor and go—you won’t be...
