Hidden Treasures of Butte Montana: #2 This place has been a hidden Montana treasure since the 1930s (still owned by the same family). It is also registered in the Montana historic registry! Burgers here are made with fresh beef and hand made patties. These burgers are also 'no frills' burgers with lettuce, tomato and onions. No fancy sauce needed to mask the taste of real fresh beef! The milk shakes are hand made right in front of you. The ice cream that goes in these shakes are also made on premises. They give you so much so that you won't be able to finish it (at least I never can). I can't whole heartedly recommend the vanilla shake, however. It tasted too bland with not much vanilla flavor. I do however highly recommend the banana, strawberry, huckleberry and chocolate - I've had them all previously. Seating is limited and you might have to settle for standing room only. But it would be worth the experience. I give it four stars because the wait staff wasn't that friendly; it seems the friendliness have degraded over the years (comsidering friendly and hospitable Montanans). I do highly recommend the old world burger, milk shake and soda fountain experience!

Matt's is a legendary burger joint in Butte that really represents good ingredients, great service and a blast from the past. The parking lot here ins't too big and there aren't many seats inside, but it's totally worth going in here. They won a James Beard award a few years back and it shows why. Their prices are actually pretty good considering the portion and quality you get, and the nut burger is delicious (yes it's weird but worth trying). They make fresh milkshakes in front of you which is also pretty cool to see. If you're around, you should definitely stop by and grab a quick burger.

Very nice place! Google says they are not open for dine in, but they are. The place was very clean. The service was impeccable! They make their own ice cream. The burger was juicy and not bland. The fries OMG amazing. Onion rings were hot and crispy. We were the only ones there, but by the time we left it was very busy. For the same price as Wendy's or McDonald's you can get real food that is so much better! I highly recommend Matt's place.

For a 1930s dinner it's not bad but the hype is a bit much didn't meet my full expectations. Ultimately your paying for nostalgia vs quality food. I say this as from where I was sitting you can clearly see the kitchen and ever item in there was store bought including Cheap buns from the local grocery store. They advertise on the plaquer out front that everything is made from scratch and that clearly is not the fact. The owners are clearly keeping close eye on speditures as it wouldn't kill them to have a quality bun. To be perfectly honest I can make better burgers and Frys (which are not sapose to be soggy with grease please use a strainer and double fry them it's not hard.) The buger how ever thin it was did have a great flavor but ultimately as I said you could feed 4 for $15 and have a better buger and fry at home but the nostalgia was pleasant. The ice cream not that is where this place shine we had a root beer float and it was great the ice cream my fab but would have been awesome if they had old style root beer vs caned a and w. I doubt we will return it's kind of a one hit wonder for us. Also we watch 3 couples walk in and leave because they do not take debit or credit cards and your asked to walk across the street to the ATM the service was mediocre staff had a bit of a carelessness to them appearance in Customer Service is always important. Smile and...

I pulled over in their , what looked like still, abandoned ( for years) parking lot. Several for sale signs still up. There were a couple of traffic cones blocking off most of the area , which I did not enter. I had pulled over to eat a on the go burritos with my little girl. They were hot and messy and I didn't want her to get burned. The owner (unbeknownst to me , as such, at the time)came out angrily telling me to get off her property. That's NOT how Butte people behave. We help each other. Fences are for sitting... That kind of thing. That's real Montana I don't know,,,, if I was opening a restaurant I'd be ecstatic someone was already eating in my parking lot. Maybe in a Washington food truck/tent she can get away with yelling at strangers for no reason, but this is a restaurant. I don't care how good ( or not)their food is...
