Went to get a sub at Subway which adjoins this restaurant. Saw there was a buffet for about the same price as a sub meal, so I thought I would check it out. I asked to be seated at a booth which seemed to annoy the waitress as I was alone. She asked if I wanted to sit at the counter instead, to which I replied no. She said I would have to sit in the back, though there were multiple open booths next to the counter. I said that was fine, and was ushered to a booth along the far side of the restaurant. I ordered the buffet and a coffee. The buffet had salad, fried chicken, ham, veggies, mashed potatoes and gravy, French toast, French toast sticks, eggs, some desserts, and a few other items. I took some fried chicken, mashed potatoes, ham, and eggs. I have to say, the fried chicken was very good. Nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly and was juicy and tasty. From there, things went downhill. The potatoes were ok, nothing special, but not bad. The ham had a strange flavor, obviously they were going for something different, but missed the mark. The eggs were very dry and very bland, hard to screw up scrambled eggs, but these were terrible. During the meal, my coffee never showed up. I finally saw another waitress who finally brought me some coffee. I went back and got some French toast and French toast sticks, and both were lacking. The toast had little flavor, not much egg, and left me wondering if was made fresh. The sticks were also not very good as the ends were quite hard as if they had dried out. The syrup was also nothing special, a shame when there are maple syrup shops in the locale. I did not get an offer for a refill until after I had finished, though a couple of waitresses walked by my table freshening up other diners coffee It's too bad as I usually really enjoy small town diners. I left this one regretting that I didn't stick with my plan to...
Read moreWe were there for Rockfest musical festival and decided we wanted to go get some hot breakfast, it did not take long to be seated, the girl that was gonna sit us doen asked if we wanted a booth or table which we said booth and as we were being walked down, asked if maybe we could get a table instead, and she said no we dont have open tables which they clearly did, it was 4 of us one ordered only a drink 2 decided on the buffet, I was the only one that ordered off the menu. Shortly after we ordered, I watched a gentlemen and a child walk in get sat down and order off the menu, soon they had their food, by this time I was hoping our waitress would have swung by our table to ask how things were, which she didn't the next time she showed up was to ask if our bill was going to be together or separate, my friend and husband were like she didn't even get her food yet which I had ordered the biscuits and gravy that was topped with eggs and a side of hash browns, honestly I don't think our waitress even put in the order since my husband and friend did the breakfast buffet, which I get it I used to work as a waitress it happens....but she came back and was like umm its only been 10 minutes and we have a party in the back, the party that people were already leaving from, so I went on to explain and point out the gentlemen and child that had been sat down shortly after us, ordered from the menu and had already been served unhindered by the party that was half gone already, an apology and accountability would have gone a long way instead of trying to blame shift on everyone else. Needless to say I left there with no breakfast, because it in fact had been more than 30 minutes and the rest of our table was done eating, didnt really feel like sitting around...
Read moreOverall good. Kathy was our waitress. She was better than average for attentiveness by checking on us frequently, but my tea was gone for a while before she asked if I wanted another. But she acted in a professional manner by not interrupting conversation and seemed genuinely interested if the meal was decent enough. Food was okay. I ordered breakfast of chopped steak and eggs. Steak had good flavor. There was no pink, however. I had ordered medium well. Rye toast was touched with butter but not spread on the toast. It was dry and hard. My companion ordered the ocean perch lunch. It was presented well. Fries were great. One of the fish pieces was thicker and was tough and chewy. Otherwise it was flavored well with a nice crisp crust. Corn served with the plate was standard canned field corn. Nothing worth taking the time to chew and eat. Today we ordered dessert. I has the raspberry cream cheese pie. My fiance had a lemon meringue. The crust on both was anemic, leaving a lard and flour taste. No salt for seasoning. The meringue was not fully cooked, leaving a runny egg white over the middle of the pie. Raspberry pie was thick and rich. Overall, we'd visit again if we were hungry and passing by, but won't go out of our...
