Crumbs Cafe & Coffee Bar — Restaurant in Calais

Great, great, great experience for food, service, atmosphere. My husband and I were visiting from another state and had a jam-packed itinerary for sites & towns. After spending time in other coastal towns, I had a day planned to visit Quoddy State Park/Lighthouse and some spots in Lubec & then up to Calais. I had not planned where to eat lunch so at the last minute I googled & found Crumbs Cafe & Coffee Bar in Calais. My husband had the chicken pesto panini & sweet potatoes fries and raved over how good it was (he can be tough to impress!). All white meat chicken and panini that wasn't flattened paper-thin like we're used to. I had the BLT & regular fries it was sooooo good! I also had an iced latte that was perfect. I like the taste of coffee so this was not so sweet that I couldn't taste the coffee. 2 thumbs up! I think they also had boba tea but didn't realize that until we were sitting at the table so lots of great beverage options. Other great food menu...

I really, really wanted to like this place, and my first visit there, I did. Coffee is the best around and the cheesecake melted in my mouth. However, my second visit the chef, or owner, or someone had decided to "take the day off" and, even though the sign said they were open, it was only for pick up of special orders. A sign on the door stating that would have gone a looong way toward keeping me as a regular customer. I had waited an hour outside for them to open.....really wanted my morning coffee and a nice, quiet atmosphere to relax and enjoy it in. Could just taste that cheesecake!

Soooo, remembering the great coffee, I gave it one more chance when I had to come into town early this morning. Had a not-so-great àvocado veggie skillet and an extremely tough, almost couldn't bite off pieces, cinnamon roll. (When was that thing made??) As I said, really wanted a great coffee place to enjoy chatter and smiles......but will have to...

I had the buffalo Mac and cheese. I was really looking forward to it and unfortunately, I don't think it was very good at all. It was very bland other than the buffalo sauce. Looked like plain noodles were put into a container and then some cheese was sprinkled over it and it was warmed through. There didn't appear to be or taste like there was a cheese sauce on the noodles. The shredded cheese was barely melted in some places, not at all melted in other spots. The chicken had no flavor other than if you got some with buffalo sauce on it. I love Mac and cheese and I was only able to pick about three bites out of this before I had to throw it away. Maybe other things are good, but it's not worth it to me to try after wasting the money on the...
