We frequent Amigos fairly often because it is on our dog walking route. Normally the food is decent, nothing to write home about, but good enough that we come back. We went today for a quick dinner and ordered queso fundido and taquitos. The queso fundido was completely seized. It was a solid block of rubber in a pool of oil. You literally couldn't scoop it with the spoon provided, it required two hands to break off a piece, and then it tasted awful because there was no oil left in the solid component. We told the waiter when he brought the taquitos and he told us that that is how it is. And then shrugged and walked away while we tried to talk to him. My husband brought it in to the cashier who also said that is just how it is. I doubt it because there was literally no way to eat it, you couldn't scoop it in any way. The cashier was nice and offered extra taquitos as a replacement. Unfortunately, all the taquitos tonight were beyond bland and not worth eating.
This is uncharacteristic of their restaurant, I'm not sure if they hired a new chef or just were having a bad night. Normally I wouldn't write a review for one bad meal, but to have a waiter literally shrug and walk away while we were talking to him was one of the most offensive things I have experienced at a restaurant. I won't say we will never go back, but it will definitely be a while before we are willing to give them...
Read moreGood food, but really lousy service. We ordered to-go and were given a number. I asked the guy if they'd check the seating outside when it was ready and he said they would, so we ordered a drink and sat outside waiting. After 30+ minutes I went back in to ask what the status of the order was. The guy taking the orders went to check and it turned out that our order had been boxed and sitting on the counter the whole time. I said to him "aren't you supposed to notify us when the it's ready?" and got a laconic "yeah, they're supposed to. I don't know why it didn't happen" and a real "them's the breaks" attitude. Net result was that by the time we got home, the nachos were completely soggy having been sealed in a container left sitting for so long , and everything else was cold and needed microwaving. I can understand a glitch in the process, but I found the "not my problem" attitude really offputting. Won't...
Read moreAmigos in Portola Valley totally won me over. We went on a busy Sunday and even with the crowd, the service was quick and super friendly. The dog-friendly patio was a huge plus—such a nice spot to hang out, especially on a sunny day.
The food was great across the board. I had the chicken mole and some tacos, and both were packed with flavor. The mole had that rich, layered taste you hope for, and the tacos were super fresh. Their homemade hot sauce is seriously next level—spicy, balanced, and honestly something I’d buy if they bottled it.
The vibe was really relaxed and fun. There were a bunch of people watching the game, but it didn’t feel like a sports bar—just good energy, not too loud, and still felt like a place to enjoy a proper meal.
Can’t wait to come back, especially when the weather’s nice again. Definitely a new favorite for a casual, delicious meal with a...
