Originally wanted to give this place 5 stars after my first visit. But my 2nd visit was so disappointing.
First, the time it took to get our food was too long. We got there at 5:30PM and there was one other table besides us. After 2 rounds of orders, there were maybe 4-5 tables at any given time after 6PM. At 6:30PM, we began to notice that the time between our orders took longer and longer. It was taking 15+mins for us to get our order after placing it. There were 6+ people in the kitchen, serving 4-5 tables, and it was taking them an avg of 15+mins to get our food out. I began to notice that the other tables were getting their rolls and other fried appetizers out before we were getting our simple orders of nigiri. I figured, "Okay, well they probably just put their order in before us." That was until I saw 3-4 rolls go out to different tables before us waiting another 10mins to get our food. It took 15mins for me to get my order of Chirashi. And our last 2 orders had us waiting almost 20mins each after ordering. We stayed 2 and 1/2 hours until 8PM and 2/3rds of that was literally waiting for our food to come out. -1 star.
2nd, the service was questionable, save for 1 person. The older Asian woman had phenomenal service. She always checked up on us to refill our drinks and see if we were doing okay. When she noticed that we were waiting for quite a while she went to check with us and then to check on our food. Now, where the service started to plummet is when my wife noticed one of the chefs make comments about us, on multiple occasions. The sushi chef in front of us, was being fairly rude. He's a tall, (maybe) White dude, wore a hat and glasses, and has a Kanji tattoo on his left arm. He made comments multiple times on how much we were eating and how long we'd been there. It made my wife extremely uncomfortable and made it seem like they were rushing us and pushing us out. During our last order, she heard him make a comment on how much money in food we ordered. I have to say, he was successful in pushing us out. Because although we could have eaten more, the amount of time it was taking to get our food out in addition to the negative aura being emitted by this guy made us want to leave. And unfortunately, we won't be coming back. -1 1/2 stars.
3rd, I was wrongly charged for my Chirashi bowl. The rice to fish ratio was absurd for this bowl, so I decided I would save the rice and order Ahi Poke to eat it with the rice. That order took 20mins to come out and I ate it with the remaining rice from the Chirashi bowl. When I inquired about why she charged us she said, "For any donburi bowls, if you don't finish the rice, we have to charge you." I explained to her that I literally waited for my order of fish to come out to eat it with the rice. And her reply was, "Oh! You did?" Confirming that she didn't even check. It was an easy fix -- but the situation could've easily been avoided. We left no waste. -1/2 a star.
Some constructive criticism from a customer's POV: If you're going to make a place AYCE, raise the price, and make the whole menu AYCE. I'd be willing to pay $50 / person for a true AYCE menu. If you're going to have rules, be consistent. Constant back and forth (included in other reviews) is a turn off. Also, under no circumstances should customers feel like they're unwanted or being rushed out. That's just service 101. If your workers are going to talk bad about your customers, at least make sure that your customers don't hear it. That's a sure way to lose out on a customer permanently. If you're going to have an AYCE menu, you should be ready to have customers who can eat. That's the whole point of an AYCE place. Don't shame them for eating a lot or staying long -- especially if the reason they're staying long is the unnecessarily long wait times between orders.
I'm so disappointed with my experience tonight. This place was going to be my wife's and my new regular sushi spot. We even recommended this place to a lot of our friends. But after tonight, that's unfortunately...
Read moreI've been here about four times at this point, and they've all been great until my most recent visit. My friend and I came in last night (1/10/23) at 7 pm. As soon as we stepped through the door the older lady (who I've seen every time) barks at the younger server to seat us and then walked away from the register while checking someone out. The younger server took over the transaction that the other woman had abandoned. When the older lady came back, ten seconds later, she shouts at the younger server to seat us two more times! We had been in the restaurant for maybe two minutes and this poor girl has been yelled at by the older lady THREE times. The restaurant was about half full, so we expected a wait. The younger girl looked mortified that she had been barked at repeatedly in front of customers.
The revolving sushi belt wasn't working, but we assumed that it was due to the freak storms in the area. We were mostly there to catch up, so we were weirded out by the behavior but were going to look past it so we could have a good time
When we sat down the younger server was so sweet and attentive. It was busy so we started to order on the iPad at the table. After putting in our order and waiting for about 15 min the older lady came over, obviously irritated, and told me I had missed a couple steps in the ordering process so our order hadn't gone through. No big deal, that's my bad. She said 'next time just order through me' very exasperated and stormed off. She kept coming back over despite the fact that the younger server was helping us.
Before we came in I checked the hours to make sure we had a while before close, both Google and the hours posted on their door said they close at 10 pm on Tuesdays. I did not see a sign saying otherwise, nor did any of the staff tell us the hours changed. I even checked again while sitting at the table to make sure! Everything we saw said they close at 10 pm. At around 9:15 my friend and I had finished eating and paid. We were chatting and sipping on our drinks when the older lady came over and said 'we're closed' and started taking our drinks off the table and walking away. I didn't want to say anything and cause a stink at the time, but if your hours are different than posted online and on the door you need to inform customers when it's getting close to closing. Not just take their drinks and say you're closed. We thought there was still 45 min before they closed. Again, it's MY bad if I missed a sign with the updated hours. But she didn't give us a warning that they were closing soon, just took our drinks and ushered us out.
This was the fourth time I've been here. And while the concept is fun and the food is good, the older lady really ruined the fun. I probably won't come back because of how mean the older lady was to her staff and to customers. There are equally as good sushi places in Sac with a worker that...
Read moreDon't get the all you can eat option, ever, you have been warned. The staff get clearly uncomfortable and will make you feel unwelcome. We used to be regulars but now we won't be coming back because of the condescending behavior.
On our last visit, my party got the all you can eat option. This was our 5th time coming here and we know the rules. The older lady, probably the owner, repeatedly came back to our table on multiple instances. First off she told us to read the rules, okay fine. The second time she came back while we were eating she warned us that if we waste food "they told me to charge you extra." Okay, who is they? You're the owner. You told yourself? We didn't waste anything but clearly the amount we were eating was making them uncomfortable. The last then came back saying we need to finish our food before ordering more. Yeah that's not a rule. She then started giving half refills to soda.
Why threaten your regular customers? Maybe you shouldn't have an all you can eat if you're going to repeditly make comments at your patrons when they eat a lot of food at an "all you can eat".
The owner has even gone as far as fat shamming making comments like "you always get all you can eat!". Almost feels as if they don't want our business.
During one visit, they further limited our Nigiri order. We had 5 people in our party and we definitely didn't get our 10 orders in before they came over and said we couldn't order any more.
Oh but the food is good. Fish is pretty fresh, bibimbap tasted pretty good and when the sushi is fresh it's good, but be mindful of the plates that circle the restaurant for over an hour with no temperature control.
We won't be back because clearly the owner gets very uncomfortable and gets more unwelcoming the more you eat.
Don't have an all you can eat if you can't handle it!
And yes, the owner does try to get you to "circle" her tip which they apparently don't share with their servers. The options are 18%, 20% or 25%......
