I would give this place 5 stars for the “comfort food”, but 1 star for the customer service of the staff. If this was only the first time there was an issue, I would have probably let this go. Unfortunately since I am writing this, it is not. The first issue...it was approximately 10:17pm and apparently the menu is limited after 10pm. I was hoping to order takeout and surprise my Dad with liver & onions (ugh, I know but he loves it) from Corky’s as it is one of his favorite meals that he rarely indulges in due to his health and he needed cheering up. When I called to place the order, I was told that it was too late. I mentioned that it was only 17 minutes and that they still prepare items like hand battered chicken fried steak and fish and chips, etc. I asked Andrew if he would please ask a Manager for me. He placed me on hold for a few minutes, came back on the line and informed me that unfortunately they would not do that for me. Needless to say, they lost my business that night. Their quality of food for the price is good, so I have returned a few times since.STRIKE ONE
Tonight, I ordered takeout once again. This time for me and my boyfriend. He ordered the stuffed French Toast Combo and I ordered my usual Chef Salad (their lettuce is amazingly fresh). I requested to substitute extra egg for the tomatoes and paid for my order. I have done this before without issue while dining in. When my boyfriend went to pick up the order, he was told (by Andrew yet again)that we would be charged for the extra egg. Luckily my boyfriend had his wallet and didn’t want to me to be disappointed, he just paid the difference. I love how there is never a credit if you don’t want a particular item, however they are fast to charge additional monies for a substitution. To top it off, after receiving my salad, I noticed that they did not include the cucumbers or pepperoncini peppers that it typically comes with. Again, should I have been credited for this? If customers would nickel and dime the restaurant owners as much as they do their customers, maybe just maybe they would open their eyes a bit more. Now that one egg that costs less than 10 cents, just cost them a negative review, which can be a much bigger expense, not including the negative word of mouth that occurs and less business from a customer that would frequent a few times a month. I am big on principle and this one just pushed me a bit too far. I have also managed a restaurant, so I am very familiar with the costs associated in situations like this.STRIKE TWO
Hopefully there is not a third strike because regardless of how much I might like a certain food establishment, after the Third Strike, I will no longer return. Again, it’s all...
Read moreCorky's Kitchen & Bakery in Ladera Ranch, CA is my go-to restaurant for any American comfort food meals with a twist. From the freshly-brewed coffee to the home-style cooking, the atmosphere at Corky's is always inviting and warm.
On a recent trip, my girlfriend and I decided to try the Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner special that was running for St. Patrick's Day. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try a new type of dish, plus it was St. Patty's Day after all. The dinner came with a side of potatoes, a savory cabbage mix, and a smoked corned beef. The potatoes were soft and buttery, the cabbage was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of onions and seasoning, and the corned beef had that true smoked flavor that can only be found in a homemade dish.
The portions at Corky's are usually incredibly large. However, the St. Patrick's Day special was surprisingly 'just right', and my girlfriend and I both cleaned our plates and still left feeling satisfied.
We finished off the meal with coffee served in unique hand-crafted coffee mugs. Corky's is known for its unique mugs because it ran a coffee mug drive at one point. Customers brought in mugs from home to be used at the restaurant, and these mugs are now used to provide a unique touch every time.
The pricing at Corky's is mid-range. Prices range from $10-$30 per person for meals that are a mix of affordable items and slightly more expensive ones. We paid an affordable price for a meal that was well beyond our expectation.
The atmosphere at Corky's is casual and inviting. It was the perfect spot for a casual dinner with family and friends. We enjoyed our conversations with the friendly staff, who always make sure their customers are taken care of.
Overall, I was incredibly impressed with my experience at Corky's Kitchen & Bakery. From the flavorful dishes to the warm atmosphere, Corky's has always provided a reliable spot to guarantee a pleasing meal. I highly recommend Corky's, and I am sure to return...
Read moreAmerican style food. Very large menu. Seems like you can order most anything. Belgium waffles where lightly crispy and golden brown. Very enjoyable. Didn't quite take a strong liking to the chicken though and that's bc they use chicken breast and while I prefer the juicier dark meat. So far I've had their eggs, sausage, waffles, chicken, banana cream pies and apple pie. So here's my rating: Eggs (over medium): Good. It's exactly the same as if you had made it at home, nothing special here Sausage: Sizable. Not too big. Has flavor. Nothing overwhelming though. Waffles: I come hear to eat their waffles. Very good. It'd be nice to see them come down on the price though Chicken: They only offer chicken breasts. It'd be nice to see them either have more options (like dark meat) or pack more juicier flavor into the breaded breast Banana cream pie: It was good. A bit on the sweet side Apple pie: Not a huge fan. I may've gotten the wrong pick but mine tasted a bit tart
So overall I thoroughly enjoy their waffles and might need to venture more into their oceanic menu. I'll def be coming here again.
Service is wonderful
Really like that this place is open 24 hours. Good to know that there are 2 places (the other being Harbor House in Dana Point) that are open 24 hours and are not...
