Growing up there were two places we'd get donuts from. One was here, at Foster's Family Donuts and the other was at a Chinese take out place down the street called Chore's. That one was convenient because it was a little closer, but the donuts weren't as good. I have since wondered how the owners decided on the name Chores for their little Chinese take-out place. Was the guy who opened it just so surprised and sick at the amount of chores he had to do to run a restaurant that he sarcastically called it Chores because that's all it was to him? Chore's was right across the street from a KFC that my dad absolutely hated. Now you have to understand my father was always a very even-tempered and patient man but the one thing that could always get him mildly-frustrated was having to go to that KFC. His main complaint was that every time he tried to order a specialty item like popcorn chicken they'd say "Oh we're out of that" like, every single time. He'd always come out of their just bitter and flustered which was funny because he was still holding a bucket of thighs and drumsticks but he'd say something under his breath like "knuckleheads!'" or "unbelievable!". Anyway, Foster's Family Donuts. It's located in what I like to call the Saturday Morning Dad Shopping Center cause it's right next to an O'Reilly Auto Parts and if there are two places you're most likely to find your dad on a Saturday morning it's in a donut shop or an auto parts store. Or a hardware store. I swear my dad lived for the chance to drag me or my brother to the hardware store on Saturday mornings and then spend at least an hour sorting through those little drawers of screws and bolts.
Anyway the donuts...
Read moreI'm giving four stars to the DONUTS, this place has BEST FRIED SUGAR ROLLS EVER. Foster's would have gotten 5 stars, but my experience today ruffled my feathers. So , I understand coffee takes a few minutes to brew and was delighted at the thought of my gloriously hot Java and that apple fritter . Now after paying 35 dollars for our botty, we head out to the car as the shop is now filling up, and the Asian woman behind the counter reminds us it will be a few minutes as we head out. As time passes, I look on and envy my boyfriend devouring his pink French dount gussling cold refreshing milk, it's coffee time! As I walk back into Foster's to claim the large hot cup of coffee on the counter waiting for me..... panic sets in. I stand there and notice the cream and sugar is behind the Asian woman piling donuts into a pink box, so I have to ask . Being told to wait, even longer has me growing irritated, especially when the very large woman being helped thinks it time to inform me it's her turn and to wait as she must pay first and I'm to close...and I shouldn't of walked out. * Wait I already paid for my purchase and just would like my coffee fixens, so I can join my boyfriend now waiting 15 minutes for me in the truck. * I was not impressed with the Asian woman behind the counter , she apologized to the mean large woman and ignored me.... rude..... so rude....
Pouring my cream and sugar seemed a tast to tall and tedious.... sorry to of ask for coffee, which any donut shop should of had brewed and ready. We are going to stick with the late night guy, when all the donuts are available with...
Read moreI never thought I would have a bad experience at a donut shop considering my sweet tooth until now. First time wandering into this joint as I like to patronize small mom and pop places. I now regret walking into Foster's. The lady behind the counter does not smile or greet you. She just stares at you as you decide with this expression like she hates you or her job or both. The donuts are a whole other conundrum as I sit writing this with an upset stomach.
I ordered an apple fritter and it wasn't until I got home that I realized it was overcooked, flat like a big cookie, and HARD as a rock. This seemed like a day old donut that sat in the fridge overnight. Mind you this was at 8am so you would think the donuts are fresh. I gave it a try to give them benefit of the doubt but could not get halfway through it before throwing it away in disgust.
Between the lack of friendly service and the poor quality of the donut, I will steer clear of this place and head down the street for my sweet fix. I will be sure to tell my foodie friends in the area to go elsewhere.
The plus side of this debacle though, it kept me from eating too much carbs and at least I found out the hard way at home...
