I arrived and was seated in a timely manner. My server (Ashley)arrived a short time after and coffee arrived quickly. Although it was more towards lunchtime I decided on breakfast and ordered the crab cake benedict with hash browns. The menu description sounded good and I have enjoyed this version of eggs benedict at other restaurants. The meal came very fast, within 8 minutes actually and I attributed this to the fact the the place was not so busy. I noticed right away that the potatoes were very dark and borderline burnt but I let that go. This is where the real disappointment begins. I struggled to find any crab in the "crab cake". It was very spicy and in my opinion it was a cayenne filled patty of bread crumbs deep fried. Ashley stopped by to check on my meal and I told her of my unsuccessful search for the crab. She came back a minute later with a big smile exclaiming that she had solved the mystery. Her explanation was they used to handmake the crab cakes but the owners had decided that they were going to get them pre-made from an outside vendor. She just looked at me quietly like that was supposed to be acceptable. I told her they need to find another source because these were terrible. She apologized and asked me if I wanted another crab cake. I said that would be fine if she would bring one back that had crab in it. Here is the stupid part. She brings me another crab cake exactly like the ones before it and says "here you go"! A quick dissection revealed the same meatless cake. Oh by the way- Ashley's attitude changed dramatically the minute there was a problem. She turned from smiling helpful Ashley to "oh God I can't wait to get him out of here" Ashley. She didn't even ask if the new crab cake was acceptable, she simply brought the check, put it on the table and didn't say a word. Any other reputable place would have offed some sort of discount or comped the meal entirely. I was disappointed on two levels. The food was sub par and overpriced and the service was fine until there was a problem and I was made to feel like it was my fault that the food...
Read moreHonestly, we were surprised with how great our breakfast was. We've been going to different places and trying french toast and Benedict platters, hoping to find some soothing breakfast go to's on our fun, lazy mornings, and that's exactly what we found!!
Well, this was definitely the best breakfast we've had outside of home in a very long while.
The food was absolutely on point and amazing; the server was pretty attentive, helpful, patient, kind, and considerate even though she was VERY busy (Sunday morning, and she still took time to be personal and considerate with all her tables); the huckleberry mimosas were delicious and perfectly complimented the meal, we really enjoyed trying them, it even seemed to help add to the southern vibe, and altogether make for a very enjoyable brunch outing with my partner. The consideration put into our food and service was very appreciated!!
And the atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful!! I will admit some edges and corners of the floor and by some seats need a little TLC with a broom and a rag lol, but honestly the peacefulness between customers and everyone here was something that feels a lot harder to find these days (but maybe that's because we're local to Galt; lol or the nice low lighting helps ppl idk), and you just don't mind the spider webs so much since you can tell everything is cleanly where it needs to be and that people are being considerate of how their job impacts customers, and keeping up on things, etc.
Anyways, we were looking for a calm, enjoyable breakfast nook where people are actually acting like decent people and treating each other like people deserve, so we can just find some peace in this crazy world and enjoy a (hopefully) really good meal.
I cannot believe how great it was, honestly!! Probably coming back this week, and will definitely be bringing friends and family more regularly!
Also, parking can be pretty difficult here when it's busy, be ready to loop around a lot like a shark if you need to; we had to wait for people to leave to get a parking spot it...
Read moreWe gave Huckleberry's two opportunities and unfortunately it just didn't impress. I try to point out what I would call the "positives" in every review I write so, the first time the service was excellent and the restaurant clean. The menu seemed to provide adequate breakfast/lunch choices though I'm not a fan of Cajun. We had lunch, and feel like a good test is to order a cheeseburger. It's not that difficult to make a decent burger. The buns were oily snd the hamburger patty was too small for the bun otherwise it was okay. The second time we ordered breakfast and what a disappointment. The service was awful, as we waited way too long for both service and the food (this wasn't at what you'd consider a peek, or busy, time)and were constantly seeking out our waiter. The speciality "Crab Benedict," was awful. The "crab" was more like a child's fish stick except I recall fish sticks as more flavorful, and the Hollandaise tasted like it was out of a can. The eggs bordered on nearly raw. My husband had an omelette that was runny and tasteless. It took forever for him to get his toast and when it did arrive, it was white but somehow slightly crunchy, with butter we think microwaved on top. I've been to New Orleans many times, and there is nothing about the food that I could favorably compare to any place I've eaten in New Orleans. Also, if you order an Arnold Palmer to drink, beware... it was made with pink lemonade and awful! We so wanted for this to be a good experience, as it's close to home and would be super convenient but we'll keep tracking out to The Barn on Grantline Road. We tried Huckleberry's about two/three months after it opened so you may want to give it a try to see if it's improved with time. I don't have high hopes , but...
