So-so Mexican food that probably wouldn't survive with better competition. This area has many local restaurants attached to the small, out of the way, towns on the side of the road. This place continues to exist because of that dynamic. Local folks to the town of Nipomo will support it because it's local, not really because it's exceptional. I think this place is probably most appealing to the kind of person that enjoys P.F. Chang's for Chinese food, and thinks of frozen taquitos when they have Mexican Food Night at home. It's not terrible, but it's certainly not anything that stands out. The food is pretty bland and mostly consists of various deep fried corn shells filled with adequate meats. The fajitas are OK, but often burn before you get a chance to eat them; still, not too bad all in all. The portions are good. They have outside seating and a modest selection of tequilas. The margaritas are not special, but they do the trick if you're looking to get a little loaded. I would avoid the Cazuelas Steak, though, I've tried it a couple times and it was never good. I wouldn't recommend this place; but if you happen to be in the area, and don't want to get on the highway, it's at least not bad. Just don't expect anything special here, it's pretty bland in terms of taste, drinks,...
Read moreI feel like this visit should have been a lot better. It was my first time visiting and by looking at the reviews I thought it would be great. The only part the was enjoyable was the food.
It started with having to ask 3 different people for a table for two. After the 3rd person told us to sit wherever we like despite the "wait to be seated" sign. We sat down for 10 minutes before getting up ourselves and asking for a menu. Our drink order came quickly, at least the first round.
We ordered our food, which didn't take to long. Food was good. I had to flag down our waiter so I could get a refill which took plenty of time.
At the end of the meal the waiter asked if I would like a box, then proceed to never bring a box! I waited over 10 minutes again before I had to walk to the counter and ask for a box and the check.
On the way out I asked the waiter how he thought he did. He response "ok". Well in my opinion "ok" doesn't cut it in customer service. I won't be going back again. AGAVE MEXICAN FOOD on the other side of the 101 provides much...
Read moreWe come here very often but this time it did not live up to its expectations. We were the first customers inside and asked to sit outside but were told the patio wasn't clean which we ended up being fine with. We ordered the pozole and had to wait over 30 minutes for our food. By then, more customers came in and everyone had received their food and we were the last to receive ours. The extras that came with the pozole looked old such as the cabbage looking slightly brown instead of green and the onions looking old and yellow. The pozole tasted ok but we wanted more limes and salsa but the waitress never had the chance to come back and ask how the food was. She was all by herself for a WHOLE hour taking care of about 8 tables, phone calls and to go orders. I understand this isn't her fault, but management really needs to step in at that point to ensure the satisfaction of their customers and make sure their team is supported. It felt like we wasted $75 worth of food and not sure if we...
