I was in the Pala area on Sunday and needed a place to eat with some friends so we tried this place, Luis Rey's. Much to my surprise, it was like discovering a hidden gem! I couldn't believe how good the food is! It's basically a sports bar, but the food was better than any casual restaurant food I've had in San Diego County in recent memory. The menu was eclectic for "bar food" and there was a separate menu for gourmet pizza called "Hector's Pizza" but you are given both menus when seated and it's all on one bill. We ordered a pizza with basil sauce, fresh basil, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and sopressatta (you pick your own sauce and 4 toppings.) The crust was authentic and perfect. There's a gluten-free crust option too. I had a shrimp po boy sandwich that was authentic and delicious. We also had the chicken tenders, which were large, hand breaded, and the best I've ever eaten. It came with a choice of sides and we picked sweet potato fries, and I had cole slaw with my sandwich, which was incredibly fresh and artisan, made with Napa cabbage and red onion with hints of fresh parsley, and no mayo. These may all sound like "typical" fast casual items but every single item we ordered was special and artisan or gourmet, expertly made. You have to try their food yourself to see what I'm talking about. Our server, who was super nice and excellent, confirmed the chicken tenders are FRESH, not frozen, and are hand battered in buttermilk. She said they recently launched a new menu and the chef is new (the new menu does not appear to be on google yet.) They must be striving to be on par with Las Vegas casino restaurants. I'm not really a casino person but I will definitely be returning to Luis Reys at Pala to eat! There's also an incredibly beautiful view of the sycamore trees and Pala Mountain from the restaurant. It's nice to know there's such a great casual dining restaurant in Pala (much, much better than the Pala Cafe.) Check Luis Rey's' hours though, because I'm not sure if they are open every day. We were there around noon on a Sunday after visiting the nearby...
Read moreI have been coming to Pala casino for the past few years, and I frequent Luis Rey's every Saturday for their Happy Hour tacos, along with other food and the buffet. Today, for the first time ever coming here, my family and I were turned away because of my four month old baby, who had nothing to do with my patronage.
We aren't allowed on the patio because of her, which I understand, but if I am to order anything off the menu, I have been told that i need to wait at the bar. Again, I obliged. Not a problem. Now, just ten minutes ago, I was refused service by your bartenders and the manager. "It's too busy for your order." Again, I have been coming here for years, been a patron and have spent $50 to $500 at a time at your casino, and to be rudely turned away because of my little one, is upsetting. Other customers have their food brought to them in the dining area. I even offered to wait at the bar to make it more convenient for your lazy employees just so I can enjoy the food. I was under the impression that this establishment was a family friendly environment, but the service my family received tells me otherwise. I don't believe I'll be...
Read moreMy wife and I have for the past few years, enjoyed Luis Reyes food. The chicken tenders and wings were great. Yesterday we ate there again. This time they no longer serve chicken tenders and the wings were served with only 2 drumettes and 9 of the chicken wingettes. What a rip off. For that kind of money you would think that you would get your monies worth. I asked a server. The server said NEW COOK NEW RULES. . The cook will only serve 3 drumettes at the most. I thought , maybe he is taking the drumettes home. WIngs have both. How can you not be served...
