(2.5 stars) Ok I hate to do this, but Pine Grove Pizza has been my go-to place after Frank A's mover out. NOT ANYMORE! The newest owners, although nice people, are letting the quality slip while raising the price. Now don't get me wrong I understand the cost of things are going up, BUT that does not mean that quality goes down.
Let’s break this down.
Food quality: Well, I don’t know if they change ingredients or cooking style, but before was a winning combo now not so much. Every pizza seems to be cooked different “no standard”, it’s just hit or miss if you get a mediocre or outright poor one.
Atmosphere/cleanliness: Hands down its dirty and very dischuffed. For such a simple “non fancy” layout this place should shine, LIKE IT DID BEFORE. This place never had atmosphere, but it was super clean. I felt if a piece of pizza fell on my table I was eating at, I would pick it up and still eat it (30sec rule). But now, no way quite frankly I don’t eat inside because of this.
Workers and Owners: Please stop smoking right out front. I have driven in to eat and when I see this I just drive by and go somewhere else (trust me I’m not the only one that feels this way). Pizza tossing is a sport I get it, and it’s kind of fun to watch the kid toss the fake dough. But when the dough falls on the floor and he pick it up, then served food without washing his hands. This is just uncalled for.
Management is a big effect “Food, Atmosphere/cleanliness & Workers” QUALITY. If it lacks, it shows.
Now this is not my business, nor have I ever run a restaurant, but I have managed people (poorly & well).
Simple steps to help: 1 Have a Goal(s) I’ll start you off “make the best pizza in Amador County” 2 Develop a plan to achieve each goal. 3 Set achievable objectives for the plan 4 Assign yourself and your employees’ tasks to achieve the objective, hence the “Goals.” 5 Evaluate during and adjust as needed.
It's like making pizza for the first time. The goal is to make a good pizza. The plan is to get all the ingredients and tools. Objectives are like tiny action goals “make the dough, grate cheese, etc.” And the evaluation is done during and at the end to see if you achieved...
Read moreMy son just recently got a job at this unbelievably awesome pizza place! I went in to get a pizza and see where he was working and I thought, probably it's just mediocre pizza, just like most of the other pizza places around. I could not have been more wrong! That pizza was 10 stars! It is so crispy on the bottom and they don't serve it on a metal pan or right on a box. They actually put it on a cooling rack like you would cool your homemade cookies on. So the bottom stays super crispy to the very last bite! The salad was crispy, beautiful and fresh! The restaurant is immaculately clean and the bathrooms are immaculately clean and super cute and you can see where they are making the pizzas through big glass windows. Super fresh ingredients!! What an unbelievable find right there in little Pine Grove. For 3 yrs, I have been cleaning an Airbnb in Pioneer even though I live in Omo Ranch area, and I have never even thought to stop at this place. I will definitely be back and I will be leaving an advertisement in the Airbnb for anyone that is a guest to go to Pine Grove Pizza for sure! Make sure you stop in you will be so amazed and happy at this gourmet pizza! And super friendly atmosphere in such a clean,...
Read moreMaybe my standards are a bit high having spent a lot of time in Chicago and eating the pizza there, but the food here is disappointing. If our oven worked properly, I'd opt for frozen pizza every time. There's also Ray's take and bake, but again, our oven takes about twice as long to cook things.
The past two times I've ordered, both pizzas both times were overcooked, this most recent time to the point where only a couple pieces were edible. I should have gotten pictures, but we ended up throwing it out. Also, spending over $58 for 2 x 1 topping 14" pizzas is rather overpriced. Even if the pies were cooked perfectly, this is still significantly overpriced.
We've ordered here several times over the years, and while we've never been wowed by the experience, the quality continues to degrade. I can't see ever recommending this place without there being...
