Steph's Donut Hole — Restaurant in California

I was driving from San Diego to Az one rainy night. A little bit outside of San Diego my low tire pressure alert started flashing on my dash. I started to panic and took the very next exit so I could check my tire. It was dark out and most things around me looked closed. I pulled into a little strip mall that had lights on so that I could examine my tire. It was a total false alarm. My tire was fine. After my panic subsided I saw the welcoming glow coming from Steph's Donut Hole. It was after 8pm I figured there was no way they were open. The light must just be from employees cleaning up. Nope! They were still open! (Open late til 9pm daily!) My heart and stomach skipped a beat when I saw what this shop had to offer. ALL of my very favorite donuts lined up waiting for me. They do not do the trendy toppings of crazy candy and cookies and total sugar overload. No. They don't need to do that. Their donuts stand on their own, plain and simple. I got buttermilk bars, old fashioned rings, crullers, maple long johns, chocolate cake donuts, AND THE BEST APPLE FRITTER I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! I've tried fritters from all over the place in my search for the perfect apple fritter. My search is over. This is it. I live more than an hours drive from this shop and I've already been 3 times since I found it in December. These donuts are worth every bit of the drive. Terrible service … we stopped by this place on our way back home. I ordered two apple fritters, one glazed donut and two half dozen orders of donut holes. We paid and then realized after checking our items that one half dozen of donut holes was missing. No problem I thought he probably didn’t hear me simple misunderstanding so I let him know we were missing the item and he starts telling me you didn’t order two if you would have ordered two I would have gave you two and continued to mumble what I can only imagine was not anything good. He hands me the second half dozen donuts and tells me again you didn’t order this I paid and thought something else is going on with this man so I said okay sir and walked away. This is (by far) the best donut shop I have ever been to! I travel around the country and love to try donuts at local shops in cities I visit. None have ever compared to Steph's. The creme puffs are my favorite, and I have made the 25 minute drive from my house many times to have them.
