Mississippi Boy Southern Kitchen — Restaurant in Calumet Township

I was in town visiting from Michigan for an event and this restaurant was the closest & only soul food restaurant open so I decided on trying it. I ordered the pork chop meal and got black eyed peas, macaroni, & dressing for the sides. Approaching the restaurant it smelled like old cooking grease. The lady told me, my boyfriend, & his little brother it would be a 30 minute wait because the macaroni was cooking which we were fine with. We went in to get the food within 30 minutes to be told it wasn’t ready yet, 30 minutes almost turned into an hour before we got our food. Finally when we got our food first thing I tasted were the black eyed peas upon opening the small container it was in it had a rotten smell to it, and it tasted just how it smelled I took no more than two bites out of it to make sure I wasn’t tripping. Next I tried the dressing which tasted just like Stove Top stuffing, it’s almost like they put no effort into seasoning their food properly cause it tasted like extra Sage Stove Top Stuffing. The macaroni was absolutely disgusting it tasted sweet I don’t know what they put in it but I’ve never in my life tasted sweet macaroni before just a big disappointment overall. The Pork Chop probably was the only decent thing, it was seasoned good and they were big but they were extra greasy as well. I’ll never come back to this restaurant ever again and don’t recommend it to no one, sorry but I’m disappointed as a big fan of soul food it didn’t give what I was...

I gave this place one star even though I’ve never tried the food. Business owners need to understand that the people who they employ are representing their business to the customer base. As a food delivery driver I’ve been here a total of 4 times and each time I’ve been there, the woman behind the counter is nasty for absolutely no reason at all. She has a scowl on her face when I tell her why I’m there as if I’m some sort of a burden to her. She never greets me, just stands there waiting for me to tell her why I’m there. I give her the name on the order, then she hands it to me. I’m verifying the order on the app once I see that it’s ready to go. After she gives me the order she tells me to let her see me verify it. It’s already verified, there is no way for me to complete that process for you again, the app is now on the customer delivery page. Every single time I’ve been in this place she does the same thing! Her attitude is so bad that I said that I would never buy anything that she prepared! She’s basically accusing me of coming there to steal the food. She’s horrible for your business, and usually when employees are allowed to behave this way in a business, they’re related to the owner. That’s why it’s always been said, never hire your family members! I no longer accept deliveries...

I was in the area and I stopped by for an order of peach cobbler. I made the mistake of not checking my order before leaving. I got all the way home and the cobbler was a lot of mushy bread along with hard pieces of bread. No peaches at all. It seemed to be old. I pleasantly called to inform them of what was sold to me. The lady laughed and stated “sweetie we cook our peach cobbler fresh everyday “ Please see the pics, this cobbler was definitely not cooked today and not even yesterday. Calling a customer “sweetie” is not proper etiquette. The lady then stated “ bring it back for another one” I was on my way, but its not worth the drive. If the customer service over the phone was a little better, not defensive, but apologetic then it would’ve been worth the ride. But this is how our people treat us. This was my second time there. First time I only ordered the peach cobbler and it was pretty good. Second time, it was horrible. It was trash. I will not be returning. Your place of business will not prosper if you continue to do treat people like this. Not even worth a one...
