This place advertises well on social media, but I have to say I was disappointed when I came.
The Taco Tuesday thing is so clever and fun, and I came in eager to try the flavors my insta keeps saying “come in and try!!”
The sign said “no samples.”
I get not wanting to give ice cream away for free, so I said “can I pay for samples? I am one tiny human and cannot eat three whole scoops, but I’d like to try a few ice creams?” I was told no, I said “okay…Could you maybe put 2 or 3 types into a kiddie cup and ring it up as a kiddie? I just can’t eat a whole bunch of ice cream, but I do want to try a few flavors while I’m here” (I don’t live close at all. Came in just for this.)
I was told “no.”
Honestly, unless this changes, I won’t be back.
I hate inflexible business, where a customer is more excited about the product and wanting to explore and experience it than the employees or the business.
There was not a soul in line behind me. There was one other person licking a cone in the corner.
What would it have hurt to let me pay for ice cream that happens to fill the same amount of cup but be from a few different flavors, especially if samples aren’t allowed.
When I owned my own cafe, I told my employees: we LOVE our product, and as long as we are able, we will ALWAYS allow a customer to customize it and get excited about it. THAT is what brings customers back.
As per the taco, I really didn’t like the Matcha Lemon ice cream. It tasted like lemon gone bad. I threw it out. Since I had no samples of other flavors, and was still annoyed at the inflexibility of a simple request, I left and gave my business to a bakery up the street, where they were excited for me to try everything and even gave me a free treat!
My favorite ice cream shop is Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. There is no reason this shops creative flavors can’t rival that shops. But Van Leeuwen employees are PSYCHED about their ice cream. They want you to try it all, and there is no limit to samples.
Gosh, even Christina’s (small ice cream shop in same town) gives two free tiny samples.
If even that would hurt your business, maybe you should charge more for your ice cream, so two samples a customer wouldn’t break the bank OR at least let people mix a few flavors in a bowl so they have SOME way to try variety.
If you can’t do even that, you are not worth my business.
I hope you take this feedback to heart because I love your vibe and your creativity and I want to love your place, but that stinginess and inability to enjoy with your customer just rubs me the wrong way.
As far as accessibility, there is one step to get in, and a bunch of steps to use the restrooms, but the main level is flat and wide enough to roll (if you can get up the one step leading in, which it isn’t too high so you likely can).
There is some indoor seating but not much. No...
Read moreHoneycomb Creamery might just be my new favorite ice cream store! They don't carry many typical ice cream flavors if that's what you're looking for (i.e. plain vanilla, mint chocolate chip, etc.) , but their menu is so diverse and creative, if you're an ice cream lover and enjoy trying new flavors, I 100% recommend this place!
Service/Atmosphere: We went past 8pm on a Friday night and while there were many people, there was no wait time. Service was great and the store is cute and cozy. It's relatively small inside, so it might be harder to hang out inside with a large group, but it is perfect for a date or a quick dessert to end your day.
Price/Size: For the quality, this ice cream is priced quite well. My partner ordered a small ($5.65) with honey lavender (classic) and brown sugar vanilla (classic). I ordered a flight ($11.85) to try as many flavors as possible, particularly the seasonal ones. My flight had honey lavender, as well as seasonal flavors apple cider donut, cranberry cornbread stuffing, and sweet potato & maple mallow. They pack a lot of ice cream into each scoop, so I would definitely recommend splitting the flight with a friend. The flight comes topped with waffle cone.
Brown sugar vanilla: A good twist on the classic flavor. The brown sugar didn't take away from the vanilla, it just added more depth.
Honey Lavender: This is a delicious and approachable ice cream for anyone who enjoys floral flavors. Lavender can sometimes taste overwhelming and perfume-y, but the earthy honey flavor really helped mellow it. Deliciously fragrant and not too sweet.
Apple Cider Donut: This ice cream had a good amount of cinnamon flavor and donut (?) chunks in the ice cream. This ice cream is just simple and tasty.
Sweet Potato & Maple Mallow: This ice cream definitely has a noticeable sweet potato flavor, but as a fan of sweet potato casserole, think they could have gone heavier on sweet potato. I would say that this would be pleasantly surprising for people who are hesitant about trying it, maple is the strongest flavor.
Cranberry Cornbread Stuffing: This is probably my favorite flavor that I had. The pieces of cranberry and cornbread in the ice cream are noticeably more chewy and firm than the pieces in apple cider donut, which I found quite pleasant. The ice cream base seemed to have a hint of thyme, which I absolutely loved. This flavor was the most unique due to the thyme.
I will definitely come back next time I am in Porter Square to try some new flavors. I also want to try their toppings, particularly their honeycomb candy and the...
Read moreI am disappointed that I have to write this review because years ago I had a pleasant experience at Honeycomb Creamery. However this was not the case this time around. I left the creamery highly upset and frustrated with my treatment by one of your servers who was a young lady with purple hair.
I had come in with a pair of friends ready to order ice cream and have a pleasant experience. I was raised to treat everyone with respect and kindness. I was very polite in my ordering, only becoming curt after your server decided it would be in her best interest to yell at me after I had trouble hearing her because she was muffled by a mask . What if I had been someone who was hard of hearing? That behavior is simply unacceptable. As someone who has spent 10 years in the customer service industry I know that days can get rough and that you will sometimes get customers who purposely go out of their way to be difficult but that’s no excuse to take it out on the next customer.
If your reaction to having a bad day is to take it out on someone whose only mistake was being unable to hear you then you shouldn’t be in customer service. Point blank. Period. At one point I had asked if it was possible to combine flavors to which the server yelled “Small or large?!” at me. If the answer to my question was no then a simple “Sorry you can’t combine flavors” would have sufficed. This server also after yelling at me proceeded to give less ice cream than the amount I had ordered. I had ordered a large one. Luckily her co-worker who was a woman who was about 5’3 with blonde hair caught her mistake and made sure I got a proper amount of ice cream. I will refer to the server with purple hair as Server P and the server who is blonde as Server B from now on to avoid confusion.
It is disrespectful and inconsiderate of Server P to not only treat customers with hostility but for her to make the jobs of her co-workers more difficult by not giving customers the proper amount of ice cream. No one wants to have to make up for their coworkers' mistakes. Server P was also very rude to Server B when she suggested that the ice cream was light. I remember Server P snapping at Server B and saying something along the lines of “ Well if you want to add more then do it!” in a very curt tone.
Server P was rude, inconsiderate, hostile, childish and unprofessional. I hope she learns from her mistakes and learns not to take out her anger on the undeserving.
I do want to thank Server B for being professional and treating customers with politeness.
