Excellent. As someone whoās 45% boba drinks, 40% ice cream, 24% pastries, and 19% chocolate, Iām highly skilled at identifying great desserts, much more than I am at math. Wantea is a new tea stop since December 2023 (which replaced Little Bake which was also excellent), and Iām already a huge fan. Real fruits and ingredients, not too sweet (which is how we Asians compliment desserts), and friendly service. This is better than quite a few other choices around Cambridge and even Chinatown. More pricey, but when something tastes this good itās worth it, absolutely beats paying some $7-$9 for a heavily powder-based or syrup-based drinks. Thank you Wantea.
I highly recommend: Longan Coconut Smoothie. Wantea, please, make this in an XXL size drink. I canāt believe this only comes in an M size right now. I also canāt believe I havenāt thought of making this as a drink myself, given how I love longan ice cream and coconut ice cream both! Lychee with Cheese: refreshing, slightly sweeter than other drinks, with a salty sweet cheese foam on top which I like to stir into the drink. Mango Pomelo Sago: this is the most āsubstantialā drink of the three. Lots of toppings, and any drink with mango feels more tropically intense to me than say coconut or pineapple. I donāt taste much of pomelo in this, but I do see the red pomelo in the drink which is lovely (itās the nicer, sweeter cousin to grapefruits I think.) Sago comes from palm fruit which is different from tapioca, and has a meaty bite rather than a chewy bite. This drink in a L size can easily make you full.
Please come check out Wantea and keep them in business because I need my next visit to happen...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was beyond devastated when Little Bake, the place that was formerly at this location, closed, but at least they got replaced by another boba shop! I decided to check it out and it turned out to be quite good! I got the passion fruit pineapple and it was full of fresh pineapple chunks with a strong tart passion fruit flavor. I could definitely tell they use real fruit. The flavor of the tea also didn't get overwhelmed by the fruit. I accidentally forgot to order a lower sugar level as I usually do, but even at 100% sugar it still wasn't super sweet. I think I'll get less sugar next time anyway, though.
Only downside was it was mad pricey (definitely more than Little Bake), but that's just how much boba costs in Boston now. I don't think I'll be able to go here as often as I did Little Bake, but it should be fine for an occasional treat. They definitely have a lot of intriguing drinks on their menu I'm very curious about. And it is nice to have high quality boba nearby again that isn't that awful Onezo (which is about the same price range but much lower quality). They were also selling a bunch of weird Asian snacks I don't think I've ever seen even at the Asian supermarket, lol. Might give those a try sometime.
All in all, a worthy successor to Little Bake, aside from the lack of cakes TToTT But I hope Wantea manages to stick around...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWantea uses fresh, delicious and real ingredients in its drinks. The variety of beverages are perfect for all occassions - whether you're looking for a refreshing thirst quenching drink, an after-meal desert, pick me up or just looking to treat yo'self, you will find the menu has what you're looking for. The drinks are unique too! I've enjoyed some delicious creations here that I have not seen in other similar shops, and I've been to such shops all around the world in California, New York, all over China and Japan. Wantea is the next wave in "Bubble Tea" and something more. I recommend going to YumeWaKatare next door, eat some delicous Ramen, and then head to Wantea afterwards for victory drink!
