We made this our lunch stop while traveling.
FOOD
*THE BRISKET...our favorite...peppered bark, moist deliciousness. And the little leftover getting to our Airbnb was still just as good cooled. Had I known, I would've just ordered a heaping to-go container of it.
The BEANS were my next favorite. Not the same ol beans usually served. It too had a pepper flavoring, probably helped by the little bits of brisket meat mixed in.
The SAUCE, bottle that up and send it back to me in Texas. And no not for the brisket, but it absolutely made the pulled pork! No this ain't no sugary sweet mix, it's a mix of a wee bit of tang with pepper goodness. PS, the pulled pork was my daughter's next favorite.
The potato salad, they were my wife's next favorite. Sorry I just don't get excited about potato salad. I took a bite, it was okay. The cream corn, to be honest, meh but again that's something I don't really eat and can't get excited about. I've probably only had creamed corn a handful of times but will say it was definitely different from any others and maybe for me just too much of a hard smoke taste. I dunno, sorry.
Guess should've ordered a burger too, just to try. But that 1/3lb patty just sounded way too much on top of the above and probably wouldn't have traveled well either.
SERVICE
You go somewhere because of the food (and while waiting I saw some monster stuffed potatoes going out) but just as important is the service. The owner was there during our stop. While waiting on our order, I saw him spending time stopping and conversing at each table. And appeared not just a hey how you doing but actual conversations. When I returned from walking our dog, he was speaking with my lil family about routes as we were to continue northward. And we learned a little history about him and his wife's ventures and the building we were in
ATMOSPHERE
Let's be honest it's an older building and it's a work in progress in a lil town. If we had not already made the decision to stop in before seeing, honestly we probably would have just kept on driving not giving it a second thought. But we're glad we made that decision beforehand and made that stop! I hope the locals and travelers continue supporting you and to continue the build growth. Doing this review is making me hungry for more.
So how about a "Texas Platter" for our next visit... An oversized heaping serving of that brisket with a side of beans and lets add some pickle slices, thin sliced onion and a slice or two of homemade bread (guess you better learn to bake), a little sauce for dippers and throw in a bit of potato salad for the others!
And bottle up...
Read moreWe were in the area looking at Civil War battlegrounds and the remains of fortifications when we passed by this place. At first we were unsure if there was indoor seating but seeing it was getting a bit after noon we stopped to check. And yes, there was a indoor seating area. A young lady promptly met us at the door, seated us and took our drink order after handing us menus. It is a burger place with some house specialties. The names of some of the dishes were rather humorous: a cheeseburger was a "Bearded Lady." (Note: no bearded ladies in sight but the owner did sport a large full beard.) I ordered a cheeseburger and the wife ordered a burger with some sort of pineapple sauce. I don't recall the name though I finished it off for her. She also ordered the hand cut fries so we could share them. The burgers were cooked and dressed to taste. No mustard for the wife and minimal mayonnaise for me. They arrived in no time and we enjoyed the flavor and appreciated the freshness of the ingredients on the burgers - the lettuce was crisp for example. The fries were done to perfection and salted nicely. We enjoyed our burgers and as mentioned previously I finished off the wife's. The pineapple sauce gave it a distinct flavor versus my plain old cheeseburger. It was obvious that the burger patties were no mass produced patties that had been frozen and pulled out to cook. We've been coast to coast and rarely come across an establishment that prepares their own. The place itself is a bit rough looking in places but clean, very clean. The kitchen area can be seen through a window and was clean. The floors and tables were clean. The owner has added another dining area to the existing one with a small alcove for a "MIA seat" to remind folks of the service members who did not make it home. All and all a nice dining experience and a place we would seek to return to if we are in the area...
Read moreI had ordered a burger it was very good but I was half way done eating it I had opened the bun to look at the meat I seen a piece of hair I then got in contact with them they were saying they don’t know how the hair got in and that they’d make me a new burger I then decided to ask for a refund due to me not wanting another burger at this time. They told me no I could not get a refund and that they’d make good with making me a new burger which I don’t want I just think that’s crazy because even tho the burger was good I just couldn’t stomach gettin another one after finding hair and not giving my refund.
Commenting saying someone’s trying to bully on a review is crazy Bc why on earth would i try & scam for a piece of hair found in my food make it make sense . The hair was literally mixed in with the sauce and cheese like really but...
