I heard this place was under new ownership so I tried it for lunch today. Located in a tired older strip center in Cameron Park, the decor was sparse but clean and most of the tables were full, also some folks were picking up food-to-go; not bad for a Wednesday. I started with a large hot & sour soup ($4.99) which was quite good. The hand made dumplings come ten-per order ($7.39), so I asked if I could have five-of-one kind and five-of- another, and the nice waitress said something like "yes, this time you can". I chose pork with vegetables and pork with chives, and asked for them to be grilled instead of steamed. Personal preference, steamed prepared dumplings can be a bit mushy IMO. I was full after five and took the remainder home. Each one I ate was pork with chives, hard to imagine I missed choosing pork and vegetables since they were served on one plate and I choose randomly. I'll know later if the remaining five are with vegetables. The dumplings were tasty and the side sauce was good too. I noticed that after biting one in half the pork appeared a bit under cooked, the others appeared more cooked. Probably next time I will go all vegetable and/or kimchi & vegetable. Overall, good value...
Read moreAt first glance, this place is a complete hole in a wall. Ambiance and charm is zero. But what they do have are yummy dumplings. Hey what a minute… that is also the name of the place.
The dumplings are served steamed or pan fried. Either way, there yummy. There are various protein filling. My fave is the ground pork and chives. I have no particular preference in having them steamed or pan fried. Both are delicious.
Anyways besides dumplings, they have other menu items such as soups and entrees. The hot n sour is sooo darn good. It is deliciously sour and spicy with a thick smooth consistency. It has bamboo shoots and tofu. The blistered garlic Chinese string beans is another fave.
I mentioned this place gives off hole in the wall vibe, but not meaning it to be unclean. Right when you walk in, you might have flashbacks to the 1990s or even earlier due to the basic decor and restaurant furniture. You may also see someone sitting in the corner assembling those yummy dumplings. They do it so quickly and precisely. I didn’t get close, just...
Read more1/29/24 Edit: So, editing this review from 4 to 2 stars. We went here yesterday, and the quality has absolutely plummeted since a year ago. We got the BBQ bao and some egg rolls. The bao was half the size it used to be, and not only tasted store bought but it had clearly been microwaved. You know how bread becomes very tough and hard if you microwave it too long? Yeah, it was like that. The bottom half of them were inedible. The flavor of the egg rolls were ok, but they were very mushy and oily. We try to support local restaurants, but man, not if it's like that. Get the quality back where it was, and we'll come again.
Original review: These dumplings are, well, yummy! I would note that they are pretty large though, and the dough is kinda thick. I ordered three different types of dumplings, thinking they would be much smaller than they were. It was way way too much food for two people. The bao is...
