We visited Gervasi’s for the second time yesterday to have dinner for our anniversary. Our first visit was in February and Ashley was our waitress. She was impressive and made us feel as if we were the most important patrons in the restaurant!
Yesterday Allie was our waitress and we were expecting similar service.
We had reservations and under our reservation I indicated that we are celebrating our anniversary and that we both have dietary restrictions. We are both gluten free and I am also diary free.
Allie wished us a happy anniversary and proceeded to take care of us. We confirmed with Allie our dietary restrictions since it wasn’t mentioned by her and although indicated on the reservation we verbally told Allie when we placed drink orders.
During our last visit 2/2023 Ashley gave us so many recommendations we were shocked at the variety of options we had.
When we visited yesterday Allie did not seem well versed with the menu despite working there for approx one year. She even told us that the Salmon on the menu may not be fully gluten free although it was marked with a G indicating it was gluten free. It was confusing to order from her and I did not trust the food that was brought out to us. My wife asked Allie as the food was delivered to the table was the pasta gluten free and confirmed that my meal did not have dairy because she did not make us feel confident in her knowledge with the menu nor our diet. She served me a salad with an Asiago cheese crisp (I’m dairy free). I asked her what it was and could I eat it and she said yes. My wife not being trusting that the cheese crisp was dairy free confirmed asking Allie if it was dairy free? No, it was not. She brought complimentary ice cream out for our anniversary and I asked can I eat this and she replied, “Yes”. My wife then asked her, “Is this ice cream dairy free”? Allie was apologetic and replied, “No” and brought me a sorbet.
So our experience was much different yesterday than our previous visit.
We did go to The Still House after dinner and had impeccable service from Ray! There wasn’t a drink on the menu that I preferred and Ray asked me what I like and indicated that the bartender could make me something. I was brought one of the best drinks I had ever had!! Ray listened and informed the bartender and they made me an outstanding drink!! Thank you Ray!!
We will definitely be back but our hope is to have someone next time that is attentive to our diet and knowledgeable with the menu. We want to trust that the food we eat will not make us sick. ...
Read moreIn one word The Bistro was phenomenal!
The restaurant has a calming ambiance that is beautifully decorated in what I would describe as a modern rustic environment.
Our server, Dan, was awesome. He had insightful and honest recommendations regarding the menu items. We were able to talk to him for a few minutes and never felt rushed even though we were likely one of the last reservations of the night.
The Artisan Piatti platter was fantastic and of course I had to add the prosciutto! With 4 meats and 3 cheeses, along with other toppings, there are numerous pairing options. My wife even discovered that she liked goat cheese!
The million dollar deviled eggs were fantastic as well. As a self-proclaimed deviled egg connoisseur (yes I like them that much), I would definitely order these again. The highlight was the strip of thick cut bacon with a wonderful smokey flavor and subtle hint of sweetness that you are able to cut up and enjoy on top of the eggs!
I ordered the strip steak (it paired well with the Gervasi rum barrel bourbon). It was a fantastic cut of beef that was precisely cooked to medium-rare. The only thing that would've made it better would be a sprinkle of course ground sea salt on top. I ultimately decided to order the strip steak because I had to try the potatoes that come with it. They were so good I wanted more! Large pieces of bacon and ham mixed with the potatoes (and peppers if I can remember correctly) complimented the steak through every bite.
My wife ordered the halibut. It was a thick cut piece that flaked perfectly and the lobster bisque risotto combination was fantastic. I almost asked her if she wanted to trade!
Side note: Even though I didn't taste it, the table next to us ordered something coated in red sauce, and let me tell you, that sauce smelled absolutely amazing! It smelled like I walked back into time and was sitting in my grandmother's kitchen as she was making sauce. Dan said it was probably the peppers or the meatballs and I almost ordered some to go but I was too full!
The only downside was the addition of a 2.5% fee for credit card purchases. Now it isn't the end of the world, but it seems like a business of this size where would be able to avoid these processing fees. The fees are in no way a surprise and I appreciate the transparency but it seems to be consistent throughout the property so if you come here make sure you pay with debit or cash to...
Read moreI normally don’t write negative reviews but my experience with one particular waitress at our table colored our experience in a negative way.
We had a reservation for a very large group yesterday (10+ people) and were dining around 6:00pm prior to my uncles wedding the next day. We had a few waiters and waitresses assisting our 3 tables. One of the waitresses, the one who appeared young, relatively chubby, with curly blonde hair was assisting our table. We had a few things preordered that night—pizza for the appetizer, meatball subs, and chocolate ice cream for dessert. That one waitress was so incredibly rude to my table that I wonder why she is even working at the site. Not only was she incredibly rude to my younger cousin when my cousin asked her if they had additional cups for other members joining our table, it was embarrassing to have her staff our table with her lack of professional attitude, as she kept making a number of mistakes (for example, we ordered only chocolate ice cream to be passed out, a pretty simple job that wasn’t followed or understood). If it was a mistake out of her control I would understand, but she kept claiming that there was only chocolate ice cream being handed out when we were verifying. Embarrassed when she found out that not all the ice cream were “chocolate,” she started getting flustered and appeared standoffish to our table. The rest of the crew were really nice and professional.
If I could give that waitress negative stars for the experience that day, I definitely would. She was not professional, had no manners, and it would be beneficial to at least have her trained in maintaining a professional attitude when staffing tables.
Overall, this was our first time at the restaurant and her attitude impacted our experience. Again, this comment is really for that one individual who served our table. I apologize for giving a lengthy review but I really thought it was important to bring this to the owners attention because it potentially affects...
