El Cheyo: A Hidden Gem for Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Fort Myers If you're on the hunt for truly authentic Mexican cuisine in Fort Myers, look no further than El Cheyo. Nestled off the beaten path, this restaurant is a delightful find that promises a memorable dining experience. I had the pleasure of trying the corn fish tacos, and they were nothing short of amazing! The combination of grilled and raw onions, alongside fresh cilantro, created a vibrant flavor profile that perfectly complemented the crispy fish. The tacos were topped with a creamy chipotle ranch that added just the right kick. The chips and guacamole were incredibly fresh and creamy, bursting with the flavors of lime, tomatoes, and onions, with a hint of heat that kept it interesting. It's hard to resist snacking on the chips while waiting for the main course! For my main dish, I enjoyed the carnitas, which were perfectly cooked and flavorful, complemented by pico de gallo, creamy avocado, and warm tortillas. The lime coleslaw added a refreshing crunch that tied the dish together beautifully. To wash it all down, I paired my meal with a homemade red beer Michelada. This delicious Mexican beer cocktail, featuring tomato juice, lime, and an array of spices, was the perfect accompaniment to such a flavorful meal. What truly sets El Cheyo apart is the talent of its owner and chef. The dishes not only tasted incredible but were also presented beautifully, reflecting the passion and skill that goes into each plate. You could say his culinary artistry is rivaled only by the beauty of his wife! Overall, El Cheyo scores a solid 10/10 in my book. This restaurant is a must-visit for both locals and visitors seeking authentic Mexican flavors. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their delicious offerings!

Okay… WOW. El Cheyo blew us away. We ordered the birria tacos, ceviche, and chips with queso, and I swear every bite was like a flavor explosion. The birria? Juicy, perfectly spiced, dripping with that rich consommé – total melt-in-your-mouth magic. I’d come back just for those alone. Then came the ceviche – fresh, zesty, and packed with citrusy kick. You could taste the quality of the seafood. Easily one of the best I’ve had in Southwest Florida, no exaggeration. And don’t even get me started on the queso – creamy, cheesy, addictive. Dipping the crunchy chips into it was borderline spiritual. We were fighting over the last scoop like it was gold. This place has serious flavor, great energy, and everything we ate was a 10/10. El Cheyo is the real deal – we’ll be back ASAP. If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out BIG time. 🌮🔥🙌

Everything was AMAZING!! This place is special. The atmosphere is great, clean and nicely decorated. The service from Meagan was great, she knows the menu very well and is very personable and friendly. The food was the icing on the cake. We had the queso loco, asada tacos and seafood ceviche. The queso came out almost immediately and it was very good. The asada tacos were great and nice seasoned and topped with soft grilled onions which I loved. The seafood ceviche was so good. The seafood was very tender, nicely seasoned and came with crackers and tostadas which I appreciated having the option. We will be back!
