Atmosphere is fine, what you expect. Interestingly all of the plates have their brand on them. I wish they got regular plates and spent the extra money on better food.
Everything is dry or stale. If your favorite isn't the crowd's favorite prepare to have the driest version of your favorite. Red bean buns were out so long they were dry and crunchy and the bean paste was bitter.
Even some prepackaged foods were of lower quality. Not their fault but puzzling. Fortune cookies are stale. Luigi's Blue Raspberry Ice didn't taste like anything but weren't expired. I've had this same ice from walmart and it was fine.
Most foods tasted entirely unlike they do at the 100s of other restaurants I've been to. Lo mein tasted odd, chicken stick had too much sesame oil, black pepper chicken was dry and hard, general tso's was SOUR there wasn't even a hint of spice despite having visible pepper seeds, out of the 20 foods my group tried we only liked the wings and deserts.
It moved in where the Golden Corral was and inherited their mid food quality. I'm guessing they dialed back on the seasoning to appeal to the large amount of elderly diners.
Overpriced, 23 bucks person (including drinks). Group of 4 bill was $93. Don't get why I'm paying so much for bad quality.
I think the variety is only hurting them because they have way more food than they can manage. They're obviously scared to throw stuff out, why else would half the dishes be dried out from the buffer warmers?
Service was average, the same you'd expect anywhere else. But about 1/3 the way through our meal they bring the check and cookies. We felt rushed, we weren't even there during busy hours. Then the table cleaning guy was hovering around our table. I got the hint, but I paid nearly 100 bucks plus 15% tip. I'm going to take my time. I know why they do it, they want us out quick to make a larger profit margin.
Qin Guan is terrible too. Seems like the only good Chinese place near Carbondale is in Murphysboro. They don't rush us and the staff are nice and chatty. It doesn't bother me that it's small because the limited selection they have is fresher. Yummy Buffet feels like the cruise ship of food, get a lot of people in and out as quick...
Read moreImmediately it's overwhelming with people and workers. The workers don't smile or greet you and they certainly make their presence known. They don't kindly move to the side when you are trying to navigate the buffet. The area for walking to the buffet is slim, so it feels crowded with people just cutting ahead and darting in for a plate to get food. Qin Guan's setup is far superior and feels less crowded. Service: our plates were promptly removed when set to the side. We didn't feel rushed like others have posted about. The waitress we saw only at the beginning did bring us a ticket and fortune cookies when we had our fruit and dessert in front of us. When my boyfriend pulled out his money clip, she said, "Oh! Woah!!" and giggled. Food: Food wasn't bad. I would give it 4 out of 5 for the Chinese buffet. My boyfriend, who is Korean, enjoyed all the seafood, such as squid salad, calamari, and so on. They did not have kimchi. That would be a nice addition. The sushi bar is lackluster. Qin Guan is superior in the sushi dept. The fruit selection was nice. Watermelon, oranges, and strawberries were good. I don't know what red sweet stuff they put on the bananas so I didn't eat those. The little desert cakes were fresh and the coconut macaroon was good. I guess they don't put a lot into the salad dept. But I would like to see a little more salad variety. I did not try the hibachi. The wonton soup was not wontoning as the dumplings In it were so thick and a little dried out, if we are being honest. The meat inside of it didn't quite taste right to me. I tried a little dim sum that wasn't terrible but wasn't classified as a must eat again. The crab Rangoon were visibly greasy with weird yucky oil aftertaste. I won't eat those again. The same goes for the egg roll. We need a Chinese buffet to give a delicious egg roll. Why is this so hard??? Atmosphere: it's like a Sam's club or Walmart in a buffet. Lots of people scrambling around to get food. The wall of shame as you exit is entertaining. Not sure how much longer these type of restaurants will stay in business. Overall: my boyfriend says "we will be back" I would rather eat at qin guan where it's less crowded and I can get my sushi rolls that I...
Read moremy wife and i took both our kids and my niece out to dinner for our daughters birthday. everything was fine until we got our plates. then our napkins and soy sauce needed to be changed which was 3/4 full btw soo no need to do so. the waitress only came to our table twice to help us but she was constantly staring at us watching the amount of food we got and soo on. when she brought us the bill we asked if we paid at the counter she looked my wife in her face and said no you pay me soo i took my card out sat it there and just waited on her to come get my payment method. 15 mins later she walks over and says no u pay upfront and walks away and rolls her eyes at us . they are rude and they watched mine and my family every move the entire time we were there. i didn’t leave a tip because if i’m not good enough to eat at ur establishment unsupervised you aren’t good enough for my tip. and then to top it off i got sick as all get out from the food . you guys should do better. i had multiple parties sitting around me but we were the only family that got their dinner interrupted multiple times so she could stock our table. i’m not saying it’s racist but the only black family in that area and as if the staring and loud talking wasn’t obvious enough u took it further to point and didn’t think my daughter saw you. i will never...
