Pizza Inn — Restaurant in Carlsbad

I've been to this place once before about a year ago. The food was good then and was still good today. But great flaming flamingos the staff was very off their game. I popped in around 730 or and no one even went to my table to get me a drink or see what I wanted to do. After sitting for a minute or two I finally gave up and decided to go to the buffet table. Boy what a joke that was! No pizza was on the buffet, the salad bar area was a little sparse and the ranch dressing I wanted required to scrap off the bottom to get any. I finished my salad and went to the buffet to grab a new plate....of which there wasn't any plates. Not even a salad plate to grab a slice of pizza which finally came out probably some 15 to 25 minutes after I sat down eating my salad. The pizza was great....all 3 types that I ate. They had 4 types, but I can't eat jalpeno's as they really wreck my mouth and stomach. Sadly I stuck around for the better part an hour and 15 minutes waiting to see if their pizza bar would get some additional company, but that never happened. Oh I did eventually get that drink I wanted....after I was almost finished with my first plate of pizza, some 20 to 40 minutes into my dining experience.

Now I'm not one to complain often on public forums like this one, but this was by far some of the worst service I have ever had. That's saying a lot since I live out of hotels with my job and I get to try and visit a lot of places.

What was bothersome the most was that the staff seemed to be to busy to even bother cleaning their dining room. Pretty much every table there had dirty plates and cups, and when the staff was milling around they didn't even bother to swing by a table and clean on up. I was there for over an hour and at one point was the only one there and only once did I see one staff member clean off a table.....a SINGLE table.

This place seems like a decent sort, but honestly you need to either focus on being a buffet restaurant or a take/carryout place because it seems you aren't well staffed enough to maintain both. You might have great pizza at decent prices for the buffet, but when your customers come in, sit down and then realize there's no pizza and then leave you have an issue. That damages your image and shows the customer(s) that experienced it that you are don't either care or are too thin on staff to provide a positive experience.

My conclusion: If you can deal with not being noticed, few varieties of pizza and want to eat a lot salad, totally worth the 8.60 with tax.....and if you're me and you chickened out you throw in a 1.40 tip and remember that next time the 10 dollar dinner box from pizza hut is...

This Pizza Inn on national park hwy sucks. We went in a few times did special order and they said they can't do it but the regular were able to put as many as they want after we were told no. The store manager she is hateful when our family gone in and it was football season there was us and two other families that want to watch a different game but because the employees teams were on they said no and their excuses were we don't get the football Channels. This time we went in and because the employee child was running as she works and my kids wanted to hear what was on the other tv we asked one of the employees and she was ok and went to tell the same manger that has excuses out the butt she went to our table and said we can't change the volume that she called her son to bring the remote it was like a hour and as we waited for our food that also tasted bad it was her way of like nope we are not here to make our customers happy we are here for easy money not attending to our customers but stand around and BS. When the Old GM just went to work for the pizza inn on pierce st this one on national park hwy went down hill really bad. The GM that is over the one on national park hwy is just as bad he don't care what customers have to say about any of the employees and their attitude even more about the female manger because that is his mom. The way I see it is it doesn't matter if your mom, dad or any other family member work there they should be held accountable just like any other employees. I guess not at this establishment if u like crappie service this is the place to go. If u want good service and great food it is worth the drive to go to the pizza inn on pierce st also they have a family friendly establishment. Elderly waitress with white grey hair and glasses on October 26th 2023 at exactly 8:15 pm we arrived and sat and waited to have her come get our drink order was way to busy leaning against one of the the tables visiting with a table so we waited for a good minute till she finally came and got the order, at approximately 8:40 two gentlemen came in to sit and eat, she standing from the register told the gentleman they were closed they close at 9:30 pm so she was telling them at 8:40pm they were closed and told them that they can get the buffet order to go but the sitting and dining area were closed. She also decided while my boyfriend was still watching it to turn the TV off on him and before we decided to get up and leave she had one other table still seated she instead of saying parden her reach or asked if they were finished or if she could take their plates away just reached in front of the men sitting there and grabbed their plates. They got up and left in a very upsetting way. I don't believe this waitress should have been in any way shape or form from what I gather as rude as she was. We paid for our meal and left to the truck. Sitting in the truck watched her start cleaning off our table which mind you I had done for her as I usually do at any restaurant turns to the kitchen crew and lifted her arm and was saying something shaking her head pointing at us. Which I don't really care what she says or said but I know if management was there let alone the owner none of this would have happened. So disappointed in the national parks waitress this evening.
