Before booking this place, I read reviews that mentioned that the hotel was understaffed, and the people were overworked. Sure enough, we arrived, and there was a very long line of people waiting to check in. The lady at the counter, Gigi, was extremely patient and polite with every guest even though she had over 40 guests to check in that evening. We were on the first floor on opposite side of the icemaker, which I dreaded. Fortunately, we did not hear it a single time. However, we did hear the train, loud and clear at 6 o’clock in the morning. We did hear some traffic, but it was not horrible. The couple down the hall with a bunch of kids was actually louder than the traffic and the train. The room was clean, the bathroom was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the pillows were perfect. In the morning, we went to eat breakfast, but it was a complete disaster! The same couple from down the hall that had those very loud kids allowed the kids to run around in the breakfast area while everyone was trying to get their breakfast. This was not the hotels, fault, but it would have been nice if someone from the staff would have called the parents attention. The breakfast was extremely limited and disappointing. They offered waffles, some kind of eggs soufflé in a plastic bag, turkey, sausage, very lumpy oatmeal, but they had a good selection of toppings for the oatmeal. The coffee was very strong, so you had to add extra milk. Seating was very limited, so we went ahead and went back to our room to eat What little food we got. In the morning we met with the lady at the front desk and asked her for the name of the lady from the previous night. She seemed a little nervous to give us her name, so I wonder if people complained about her. I hope not because she was amazing handling the crowd. Overall, the staff...

There were so many issues during our two-night stay:
(1) Dirty, unkempt rooms: Upon check in we found the room had broken lights, 2 missing lamps, a broken light fixture, a stash of leftover prescriptions from a prior guest, and broken faucet handle. The mattresses are worn down and A/C rattles loudly throughout the night.
(2) Maintenance / Staff miscommunication: We notified an associate that our room could use some attention and she promised maintenance would take care of it. Next day, the light fixture was still broken and lamps were still missing - the room is super dark with just a couple lights.
(3) Undesired wake up: We were woken up in the morning by furious knocking from housekeeping around 8:30a. Upon us answering, housekeeping stammered she was just checking if the room was occupied.
(4) Lack of housekeeping: Despite rudely waking us up, housekeeping didn’t end up servicing our room! Raised issue with front desk who said “people don’t want to work in this town - so we’re short staffed. Not our problem!”
(5) Poor overall service and lack of recovery: we raised our issues with staff and a “I understand it sucks” would’ve been appreciated. Offering to move us to a hopefully better maintained room would’ve been great. Instead, staff couldn’t care less.
Location: it’s right on the outskirts of Carlsbad and if the rooms facing the highway, which ours was, are exceedingly noisy. It’s not too far from Carlsbad and Guadalupe NPs.
Amenities: there’s a small fitness center and outdoor pool, which wasn’t functional.
I do understand Fairfield is a select service brand but this failed to meet even the lower expectations for...

So, I got to the hotel 6-6:30pm. It took 10+ min to check me in after the lady had my reservation, after 10 min i asked if there was a problem. Front desk said "we have rooms but they're dirty" she called her supervisor to see if she would authorize another room. After an agreement between them both, i waited an additional 7 min. I get to my room, go to sleep, go to work, come to the room the following day, room key didn't work, i go down to front desk, reset my room key, didn't work again, go down, ask if there's a problem with the room since they key is having problems. She said " no" she gives me another set of keys, they end up working, i get in my room to find all my belongings missing. I call front desk to ask what was going on " Sir. You checked out this morning at 1am" WOW.. My reservation was for 7 days. To simplify this review. They took a long time to check me in, only to check me out 3 hrs after. According to a supervisor she said she spoke to me personally and i checked out at 1 am. I was sleeping at that time. Wrong person! Then they take my belongings out of the room without authorization. Another WOWW. The experience i have gathered here at this hotel has by far been by far the worse out of my 12 years of traveling. I'm in a different hotel every 3 to 7 days across the world. Highly disappointing! Words can't express how i feel. Corporate should look into this due to the fact that my belongings have sensitive proprietary...
