Located in a strip mall by Pal's Diner. This is a small place with no inside seating and a couple of picnic tables outside. Kind of like Subway where you order on one side and pay on the other. Just 1 warning they are only open on Thursday & Friday!
I ordered the 2 meat platter: Brisket and Pulled Pork. It comes with 2 sides: I got Mac n Cheese and Smokey Beans. Plus it comes with a Cornbread Muffin. Both the Brisket and Pulled Pork were very good, however in my opinion the Pulled Pork was by far the best. Pork was top 5 and Brisket Top 10. The Mac n Cheese was ok, not great. The Smokey Beans were very good. Not in my top 5, but very good. The Cornbread was excellent. This was in my top 5. Lastly the bbq sauce was Amazing, One of the best I've ever had. Easily in my top 5. I also got an Apple Cobbler with a Caramel Bourbon Sauce on top. It was very yummy.
Overall a 4 1/2 star experience. The sides mean I can't round up so sadly that means the rating becomes a 4. Will I be back? Yes, good bbq is hard to find and a Great BBQ Sauce is even harder!
I went back today and had the Meatloaf with Baked Beans and Polish Mashed Potatoes. Wow. The Meatloaf was excellent. The Polish Mashed Potatoes are outrageous. Easily in Top 5 best Mashed Potatoes I've ever had. Awesome! The beans were much improved and very good. Corn Muffin is still excellent. I even bought a bottle of their bbq sauce.
This is now my new #1 bbq place in Grand Rapids. Sorry Slows I still love you, but Pit Stop is better.
Upgrading rating to 5 stars. See ya...

The sausages in mustard sauce were very tender and easily one of my favorites; probably because I like mustard sauces. Both the corn beef brisket and corn beef burnt ends were excellent, moist and flavorful. I recommend getting some, which requires a Thursday visit. The beef brisket and smoked chicken legs had good flavor, but were a bit dry this time and the sauce helped. The baked beans are sweet with bits of meat. However, they a little too sweet for me. The corn bread was sweet and moist. The cheesy tots and macaroni-n-cheese were both good too, but the angry tots were the winner in the carb-sides. The angry tots are a spicy version of the cheesy tater tots and they had a nice spicy kick to them. Get ‘em if you enjoy spicy.
I practice the art of smoking meat myself and understand the challenges; especially smoking outside in the Winter. The Pit Stop has great BBQ and a good selection of sides and sandwiches.
It’s important to check their Facebook page to see what will be available on the Thursday or Friday that they’re open for business. And note that not everything is offered on both days. Finally, plan to get in line early because they do run out of the popular selections.
I recommend a visit if you’re...
Read moreI work in the Cascade area and just had a catered lunch from Pit Stop, the food sucks. The chicken had minimal flavor & was dry. The mashed potatoes left much to be desired. The Cole slaw clearly came from GFS because the taste was sub-par & generic. The mac & cheese was full of Velveeta, so if you like the taste of fake, oily, cheese, then there you go. I passed on trying out the baked beans & sausage/pepper dishes because they didn't look appetizing at all. Very disappointed and will never try that place again. If I attend another meeting & Pit Stop caters, I will wait till after the meeting to eat. Also just heard Pit Stop is catering the annual picnic for the place I work at so needless to say, I won't be attending because I already expect the food to be a HUGE MISS. The Pit Stop needs to go back to the drawing board & revise their recipes. People, if you consider yourself to have a "developed" pallet of taste, then The Pit Stop will disappoint. As I close & publish this email, I'm going to get...
