Was driving through Cedar Gtove to show my mother in law what her childhood town looks like. She highly recommended Pilgram Diner and remembers it to be one of her favorite places to eat in town. My husband and I stopped in for lunch. We had no wait. We were greeted immediately and sat in a booth. Our drink order was taken by the manager. The waitress was nice and attentive. My husband ordered the Denver omelet with hashbrowns, toast, and a side order of taylor ham. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast, with scrambled eggs, 2 pancakes, and hashbrowns. My eggs were good, hashbrowns were a bit wet and not very tasty, and my 2 pancakes were hard to cut, thick, and rubbery. My husband said his omelet was good, he ate all of his hashbrowns and he said the Taylor ham wasn't his favorite (it was his 1st time trying this type of meat). The outside and inside looked recently remodeled. There was hardly any parking, the diner was full. Overall very clean and welcoming. Would recommend visiting and ordering something from the very large menu!

The new and improved Pilgrim Diner is much better than the old place because at least I'm not worried at the ceiling falling on my head or something toxic dripping on me. Pilgrim is a typical type of diner you find in New Jersey and their menu is plentiful with many options, especially for breakfast when I went. I like with the omelette or other breakfast entrees you have a choice of a side of pancakes or french toast and not usual home fries. The coffee could be a bit better because it's on the more meh side. The portions are plentiful and will feed your appetite. The pictures below is the Power Breakfast and was an okay dish, although I would have liked a different vegetable, other than the tomatoes. I think it's best to stick with the pancakes or french toast because those two breakfast items looked much tastier than the omelettes.

The waiter was setting the tables for the next day during dinner time, and I noticed her touching the heads of every single fork and knife on the tables with her bare hands. As for our food, I didn’t even touch it. The milkshake turned out to be just cold chocolate milk, and the chicken fingers were tasteless and looked unappetizing. However, the pastrami sandwiches were particularly concerning; they appeared to have been prepared a long time in advance. Just look at that meat, bread and pathetic waffle fries.

There are endless amount of options to pick from their menu. The food was good and I wish I could leave my review off here… but i was disappointed with the some of the staff. The staffs cleanliness and professionalism is questionable. I sat near the bar top so I saw when the waiters would make drinks and dessert. I saw one using their bare hands to pick up a scoop of ice cream that fell on the countertop and place it into the dish they were serving the customer (the waiter did not wash their hands!!!). Mind you someone before was cleaning the bathroom and they carried the garbage bag full of diapers and feminine hygiene products over the bars surface top where the drinks and desserts are made. I refused to order any kind of drink or dessert because of that. Also… my particular waiter was unwelcoming and a bit judgmental also. They had a remark for whatever my table wanted to order. Them and another waiter where complaining about their work around all the customers. From what I’m understanding is that there are new owners at this diner. I’m not sure if the staff is new as well or if they worked at this diner prior. They need to work on their customer service and cleanliness!! With that said, I hope you don’t order anything with ice cream here - first the waiter will complain then they’ll manhandle your ice cream which remember might have a faint taste of...

Third time will be the end.

I understand when you’re just opening a restaurant their is bound to be a few issues but you’ve been open long enough at this point to have worked them out.

My first experience here had a variety of unsatisfactory occurrences. Wait staff took forever to come to table, was never on the floor to check on order or offer refills, food came out cold for half our party or half of items on dish, and food was also prepared wrong not to mention you served me fries with no salt.

Honestly, who serves fries without salt. I get half your clientele may be of a certain age but no one under the age of 50 wants cold, unsalted fries. Once they come out of oil if they’re not salted right away the salt won’t stick to them.

On my second visit the wait staff has seemed to improve but the food preparation and expedition is still wrong. If the eggs are hot, the bacon is cold, and if the bacon is hot the eggs are cold. Learn how to time every element of each persons or party’s order so all food is hot and prepared to order. When I order 2 scrambled eggs with cheese and onion, I don’t won’t 2 slices of cold unmelted cheese thrown on top of my eggs. I want to ingredients and flavors to be combined and compliment each other. Make sure there is onion before you serve it to me. Cold bacon is never acceptable.

The next time I...

I really did not enjoy my experience at the Pilgrim Diner. I went here with my friend and the waitress was really cold and rude. We ordered a spinach pie to start and I ordered a chopped steak while my friend ordered a burger. We also ordered a few drinks so our bill was around 50 dollars.

The food is not that good. The spinach pie was really good and I think one of the best things on the menu, however the rest of their food is not so great. The soup has a metal taste to it while the chopped steak and my friend's burger taste bland. If you are to eat there, just go for their spinach pie and ignore the rest.

The waitress was cold and rude. She forgot our silverware and when we requested it, she was grumbling and tosses the silverware on the table and walked away. When I finished my glass of water, I requested a refill. She replied "You get what you get" and walked away. Lastly when we asked to split the bill, the waitress yelled and lectured us that it is wrong for us to ask the bill to be split. I had enough and took the bill and pay it in full. This is the first time I have been denied of water and being lectured at in a restaurant. I never done this before, but I...
