Bogue House Restaurant — Restaurant in Cedar Point

I found Bogue House by accident. They always have a special and the food is good.

The amount that is given is a good portion. The fish and shrimp are lightly breaded. Which I think is the best way.

They have a good amount of sides for you to choose from as well. In the summer my favorite side is the marinated cucumbers (just cucumbers with Italian dressing. I make this at home all the time).

I haven't tried everything but what I have tired, I haven't been disappointed. Oh and with all the meals, you get hush puppies. I usually don't like hush puppies but these are my favorite of anywhere that I have had them.

The service is good. It's a counter service so you order and they will either call out a number for you or what plate you have. They don't do military discounts but if you are a teacher they give a 10% discount. I found this out by accident when I went in with my school badge. I'm not a teacher but do work for Onslow County Schools. So it was nice of her to give me the discount. I'm couldn't tell you what other positions they give discounts to but it never hurts to ask.

Bogue House Restaurant used to be fantastic. I remember getting large portions for a great price. The food was always wonderful. I'm not sure what has changed as far as ownership/management, but the food and prices are no longer as great as they used to be. The shrimp is always good, as are the hush puppies and fries. But the mashed potatoes are definitely cheap instant potatoes. And the macaroni also cheap frozen bagged. The butter for the hush puppies is half vegetable oil and does not taste like butter at all. Not long ago, I had to stop by Moore's BBQ and grab butter cups and it made a WORLD of difference for the hush puppies. The Brunswick stew is made very cheap as well. It is so watery. (Not awful but definitely not good) Overall, some of the food is decent but the rest reminds me of cheap cafeteria food from my old middle school. 😅 Hopefully some changes are made soon. What an amazing place and thank goodness for my fellow Google reviewers for pointing me to this gem. Amazing comfort food and seafood at great prices. Love the old school feel. Went here and it was extremely packed and lots of locals and I can see why. The catfish was amazingly flaky and the shrimp were amazing. I couldn't tell what was in the green beans, but it was so good. Loved the perfectly done hush puppies. But let me tell you about the service. We were featured friendly as was every customer, even as busy as they were they still were able to fill ice, fill ice tea (which was going super fast) and were able to bus tables. I only saw 2 people working. I was totally amazed that even without take service we were checked on. I totally would say that you need some outdoor seating to take advantage of the view and the weather and allow more customers to sit, but it was so good and will be my go to for comfort...
