I first contacted Sound Furniture & Appliance several years ago to service our Sub Zero wine cooler as they were the only company locally who serviced Sub Zero appliances. They would not service it because I didn't purchase it from them. Well, ok (I guess). I had to get someone from Kinston to do the service which they happily did and did a good job. I recently made the decision to replace my double ovens, downdraft, cooktop and trash compacter. I wanted Wolf ovens and cooktop, so once again I wanted to do my shopping locally, so I called Sound Appliance. The salesperson with whom I spoke was Cynthia. I told her I wanted a natural gas Wolf cooktop. She suggested I look at the Wolf website to determine the style I liked, which I did. She then had someone come to my house on two different occasions to take a look to at our kitchen to determine if what I wanted would work. After the second time I was told that my granite countertop would need to be modified for it to work, which I had done. At that time I was able to schedule the appliance installation and had to schedule the gas company at the same time to hook up the gas. I called at the beginning of the week, but they were inflexible as far as scheduling, scheduling the installation for late Friday afternoon, meaning the gas company would probably not be able to hook it up and I would be without a working cooktop for the weekend. Since we have a good relationship with the gas company, they did come after they were scheduled to be off, just so we would not be without a cooktop for the weekend. However, the wrong cooktop was ordered--an LP cooktop was ordered, not natural gas, which meant a conversion kit would have to be ordered, they would have to come back, and the gas company would have to be rescheduled. I tried to call Cynthia, but she did not return my phone call. Further after having already had the granite workman modify the hole for the cooktop I was now informed that there was a control for the downdraft that required another hole to be drilled in the granite--that was after the downdraft was already installed. The double ovens were installed in such a way that rather than shimming them up from the bottom, they left a gap at the top and told me to have a cabinet maker put a piece of trim there. At this point I had very little confidence in the installation job, so I called someone I trusted to come and take a look. He also saw that a square hole had been cut in the bottom of the cabinet for a round exhaust vent, leaving a large gap to the crawl space that would mean insects and vermin could get into the house. Further, the work that had to be done to install the controls for the vent was much more complicated since the downdraft was already installed. The proper fix for the ovens was to shim them up from the bottom so that there would be no gap at the top, not install a piece of trim over the gap. I purchased $11,000+ in top-of-the-line appliances plus I was charged $475 in installation fees; I expected a more professional installation. When I spoke to Buddy, the manager ,he argued that it was difficult to make an installation in an existing home and I was blamed for selecting the wrong model number for the cooktop. After much conversation he told me he was willing to cut the installation fee to $300. When I told him I didn't think I should pay any installation charge because of the amount I had to spend for the gas company to come twice, the cabinet man to fix the double oven fiasco and hole in the bottom of the cabinet and the additional time required for the installation of the controls for the downdraft after the fact, I was told to pay what I wanted to but I would burn a bridge and they would not service the appliances. I do love my new appliances, but I recommend if you want top-of-the-line appliances you go out of town to find a reputable dealer that offers quality service and installation. Despite paying the full installation price I do not expect to get good service...

Their warranty team will take care of it. And last but not least, I can’t say enough about their delivery team. Sound Furniture doesn’t contract out this service. Their employees deliver and place your furniture. They’ll also remove and haul away the old furniture. These guys are professional and know what they’re doing. I’ve used Sound Furniture to furnish most of my condo over the past year. They even delivered a mattress set to my parents in Raleigh that wasn’t available locally. I’m writing this review today to give mad props to the delivery team for getting a sectional up to the third floor. Ultimately they had to hoist it over the balcony which understandably attracted the attention of resident HOA Board members. These guys were pros in answering questions as they set up the ropes and made sure everyone on the team knew what to do. Absolutely FLAWLESS job getting it up there safely and securely using brute strength, lift and control lines. No contact was made with the building. This is pure muscle; they won’t use your railing as a fulcrum. A+++ job guys! Just can’t say enough good things about this business. Go see...

I called yesterday to inquire about availability and price on a Speed Queen washer. The receptionist, Claudia(?), was very nice and talked to the sales manager who stated they had the model in the warehouse and they could deliver it Saturday. $1,269.95 plus twenty for delivery and fifteen for hoses plus tax. I told her that I would come in the next morning. My wife and I were there at 0830 today to purchase. Claudia greeted us and said that the owner would help us. He said he didn't see the quote on the computer. I showed him the message I had received with the pricing. He wanted to take my name and number and call me later. I explained that we had driven down there to make the purchase and set up the delivery. He said he was going to check the warehouse and said he wouldn't sell it for$1,200. He came back a few minutes later and walked by me and didn't speak. He told Claudia we don't have it and then he walked off and didn't say anything else. He made no offer to help me any further. Claudia apologized and we left. He was very rude and unprofessional and just didn't want to sell the item for the price quoted.. I will never shop there again and am happy to tell others about...
