We have been going to Breakfast House every few weeks for the last several years. We love it. A nice variety of foods (not all breakfast). The Florentine eggs Benedict is amazing and the burgers are thick and juicy.
The few times we have had a complaint, I've been impressed with the response. I found egg shells in my omelet once and was given my meal for free.
I cannot rate this a full five stars, however. While the wait staff is usually very good and some of the best in town, every so often we get poor service. The last time the waitress (one who has been working there a long time) came over and placed a bag of stale bread in our booth next to my wife, then walked away.
I'm adding this five years after posting the above:
We still visit The Breakfast House on occasion, but it's becoming rarer. At one time we were there about once a month. Now it's become about twice a year.
The food quality has gone down a little. Today my hamburger was a little on the dry side and even though the menu says it comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles I was brought a hamburger with only cheese and bacon and I had to ask for the other toppings special. Also, it is supposed to come with fries, cottage cheese or some other side. I can't recall the third option. I wasn't given the choice. The waitress was in a hurry to get my wife's order and I assumed it would come with fries. It didn't. I had ordered, as an appetizer, onion rings. So, they put them on the same plate as the burger and didn't bring anything else. On the plus side, I didn't get charged extra for the onion rings as I expected. I'm assuming the waitress thought I wanted them as a substitute, even though I didn't say that. Again, she was in a hurry and not paying much attention.
And she's the reason I initially did not give Breakfast House five stars and am now dropping the four stars to two. This waitress has been there for a long, long time and somehow we never fail to get her "service". Not only had she been in such a rush she messed up my order, she messed up my wife's, too. My wife had ordered toast and it didn't come for some time. We finally got the server's attention and she went and brought it (it had been sitting on the counter for several minutes). By now it was cold and my wife reordered. To make it worse, this server is very good at avoiding eye contact, meaning we spend most of our meal trying to get her attention so she can fix all the stuff...
Read moreThis was my second visit here. The first time was during the week. It was not very busy at all compared to today (Sat.) which was packed. On the weekend this is obviously a very popular destination for breakfast.
On my first visit I had pancakes and coffee, that's all. They were tasty and satisfying, but admittedly it is kind of hard to screw up pancakes. The service was attentive and I was in and out in under 1 hour, though I still took my time.
Today was still excellent service, even though it was busy. I ordered the Cowboy omelet. It comes with two types of cheese melted on the top. (American and Swiss) The ham and vegetable ingredients made it very tasty overall though it was slightly greasy. I do have to give the cooks the benefit of doubt, because they were swamped.
My only real complaint today is the cheese on the top of the omelet. They were not mixed, which is fine, but they were processed slices instead of shredded real cheese. That took away from the overall quality of the omelet. Obviously they took a cheaper shortcut here. There was also cheese inside, but not much. I was in and out in about 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Overall, I would say the best time to go to this particular resturant is during the week. I will have to try it again during the week before I recommend it to friends and family. Until then, at best, this is an average cafe'...
Read moreI think they should drop the cafe from the name because all they have for coffee options is regular drip coffee. All our food was good except the biscuits and gravy. The gravy had no flavor and the dish looked like mush. My fiance ate a few bites but couldn't stomach it. The waitress was amazing and didn't charge us because there was only a few bites out of it. My fiance also had a cinnamon roll which was amazing with handmade cream cheese frosting. My fiance also had rye toast and I had sourdough toast and those were both really good. I tried the stuffed french toast with strawberries and it was amazing. I didn't even need syrup with it because it would have ruined the amazing flavor. The place was packed. They had people waiting for tables. I think there were so many tables that there was much room for walk space. The wall next to me was a little dirty which I didn't like. The restrooms were very clean though. I like how the sinks are low because they are children and the handicap. All over a good experience. Our waitress was amazing. She was prompt but not...
