I stopped here on a Thursday afternoon around 12 30. I sat at the bar. The place was busy but not overly crowded. I ordered a corona premier and Philly cheese steak sandwich with cottage cheese. The bartender was nice and she easily recommended a few things when asked. I decided to go with the Philly. The beer was fine and the line was large and juicy, not dried out and old like what I have been getting a lot of lately. The cottage cheese was standard cottage cheese. It was good, not clotted or dried out. The Philly was very good with tons of flavor and juicy. When it came, it didn't look like it had much meat on it but had a goodly amount, though it would have been nice with a bit more as I did have a couple of bites with very little meat. However very yummy and the peppers and onions were sauted nicely. The only thing I wish is that they had toasted the bun, little butter and in the fridge for a couple of minutes would have elevated this sandwich to the best level. I would still order it, just make sure I would to ask for toasted bun. The cost was very good for the food and drink, being right around $15 before taxes and fees. I would definitely recommend going here for food as very good with very reasonable prices and very...
Read moreI've read allot of reviews on the Starlite Room and read they had been voted the best hamburger in Cedar Rapids multiple times. One positive is the food is on the cheap end, I only payed around 9 dollars for what I got. The Starlite Room is a dive in every way, but not a good dive. I went on a Friday around 1:00pm. I seated myself and one of the waitresses was prompt in asking if I needed a menu. I ordered a 1/2lb cheeseburger with the works and french fries. When I finally received my order it was unceremoniously dumped on the table I was sitting at and the waitress walked off. I could feel my arteries clogging just from looking at the cheeseburger. One half of the bun was completely soaked with grease and was falling apart. The other side of the bun was a bit hard like it had sat on the toaster too long. The actual hamburger patty appeared to be your standard frozen patty tossed on a griddle and cooked. Nothing really special at all about it. For being voted the best hamburger in Cedar Rapids I was expecting something truly amazing, not what I got. The waitresses seemed like they really didn't care and were rude. My bill was tossed on the table and the only words the waitress spoke to me were when I ordered my food. I...
Read moreThis is standing as my favorite place in Cedar Rapids/Marion to date after being here for six years, and my true rating is 6 stars. The food isn't out of this world. There is nothing amazing. At all. But what it has is done right EVERY DAMN TIME. I have been to this establishment 20+ times and I've NEVER had a complaint about the food, the service, or the wait. By God, I don't come in but once every so many months, and the bartenders/wait staff make me feel like I'm a regular, and I'm pretty sure they don't remember me! It's simple. They have cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, fish and chips, fries, breaded mushrooms, crab rangoons, salads. Look at their menu, they actually have quite a selection, but it's all simple. Sides don't automatically come with the sandwiches, which is great. Maybe I wasn't that hungry. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and it just feels comfortable to be there. I could sit here and chat with friends for hours. I really want to thank Starlite Room for being what it is and the people for being who they are. I don't come in often enough for this to be an episode of Cheers, but if I had a bar or a restaurant I would ever make a second home, it would...
