Ting's Red Lantern — Restaurant in Cedar Rapids

Tuesday, August 5, 2014. My two sons and I went to Red Lantern for probably the 100th time. For the first time that I can remember, the meal I ordered did not taste right. It was garlic chicken and the chicken tasted old, stale and had that "airy" taste. YUCK! As quietly and discreetly as I could, I told our waitress that my meal was "off". She went and got the manager and that is when everything got ugly. The manager informed me that people had been eating this food all day without complaint, that the chicken was dark meat, not white meat and if I wanted to re-order it with white meat I could pay an additional fee. She went into the kitchen, came back and said her cooks told her that the chicken was just fine. Loud and obnoxious OMG - I was so embarrassed I wanted to hid under the table. I did not take another bite of my meal. The waitress asked if I wanted to take it home; now why would I want to take it home when it was so bad? I declined. To top it off, they refused to take the charge for the meal off of my bill so I had to pay for a meal that I didn't even eat. My family has spent literally hundreds of dollars in their restaurant and the manager knew us. To embarrass us like that and insult me in more ways than I can count is just mind boggling to me. I hope the $10 was worth it to them because we will not be back. So much for, "the customer is always...

CROOKS!! Ordered Hot brasied shrimp without the breading and added fried rice ( up charge of $10 for both.) Total cost of entree was about $30. When I received the order they had given me unbreaded chicken instead of the shrimp. I called and spoke with the gentleman at the front desk and told him we’d be in for the correct entree. We arrived a few minutes before they closed. When my husband took the food back in to have it replaced the owner/manager told him the kitchen was CLOSED!! He proceeded to tell my husband to contact door dash because it was their fault for not checking the food before they took it. What?!!! So Door Dash is supposed to open each container of food to verify it’s correct??!! That is wrong!!! Red Lantern served me a $15 entree after I paid $30 for a different entree. Took my money and blamed it on Door Dash. They had a chance to make it right and CHOSE not to even with the receipt.

I will never do business with Red Lantern again and I do not recommend them to anyone.

My boyfriend and I went here for a small date. It was fairly clean but you can tell they don't scrub the tables and chairs, they just wipe them down. If they would up their decor, with a better ceiling, new paint job (corners were scratched off, looked tacky), and better tables and chairs, their price for their food wouldn't be too bad, but still not getting enough for the price. Taste wise the food was great but I believe you should be able to order what kind of rice you want with your entree instead of just given steamed. Total for: Fried Rice, 2 Entrees and an appetizer, was $33.76. For two people anywhere i go i expect to only pay around $20-$25.Price was too high. At the end of our meal we were putting left overs in boxes and our waitress who was an older chinese woman came over and ripped the plate and box out of my boyfriends hand and proceeded to put it away for him because he was doing it slower than she did.
