Server initially said there was a 10-20 min wait. Then we were offered the bar or a table.
Craft beer (IPL) was very good but would have even been better if were a bit more cold out of the tap. Staff was very friendly in helping make a choice and offering samples of the various craft beers. "Clearly Everyone Wants Some" (IPL) is definitely a win if you enjoy great flavor.
Ordered the shrip cocktail for an appetizer. Cocktail was delived timely and had a plesant presentation. Martini glassware with green leaf trim, cocktail sauce filled , and large shrip that rested on green leaf around the trim.
Entree was a 30oz med-rare bone in porterhouse with 5 oz Maine lobster tail and asparagus. Steak was well prepared and needed no sauce. It is a true task to find a place where you don't NEED (not want) steak sauce due to either dry or flavorless meat. The lobster tasted great with the melted butter, but left sonething to be desired if ate alone. It had a bit of a chew if consumed as prepared without any dipping butter. The asparagus was spot on. Well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The slight glaze and crunch was prefect. No over-cooked mush at the Speakeasy.
Finally to desert. Tiramisu was ordered with an oldfashioned. Took a bit longer than told, but still arrived fairly timely. The tiramisu was served slightly chilled with a chocolate drizzle. A true delight not too often found. The old fashioned was nice but a bit on the strong and bitter side. Would have been better if the balance could have been met.
Over all the staff was friendly yet seemed a bit slow, especially for the small size of the place. Food was well prepared overall and nicely presented. I would certainly give this...
Read moreWife and I had our anniversary there this evening. It was very underwhelming, as I had hoped it would be as good as everyone said it was. The bacon wrapped scallops were delicious, especially with apps being half off. The drinks were good. I ordered a filet medium and wife ordered the Bone in ribeye medium. Her steak was cooked just fine, my 8 oz filet (which was a cheap cut of meat that looked like a hamburger for $32) was brought out well done and no asparagus. I brought it to the servers attention, and she was apologetic and offered to have a new one remade. She brings out the new one and one cut into it....it was rare, like purple rare with a cool center rare. At this point I wasn't going to complain and just eat it, and honestly had it been mid rare, I would have. Alas I couldn't do it. We brought it back to servers attention, and she was once again apologetic. She took the Filet and Lobster tail off the bill. She did ask if we wanted to eat the poorly cooked steaks as well. We declined and instead of risking a third miscooked filet, I just ordered a bison burger. It too was cooked well done, bit at this point we were just ready to finish and leave. They did take the filet/lobster off the bill l, however the bison burger we paid for. Looking back I wish I hadn't ordered it and cut my losses. Not once did a member of management come out and apologize or offer an explanation. We did see the owner there so I assume he was in charge, but I don't know since he never spoke with us.
Like I said, I really wanted to like this place, but I just can't see...
Read moreI'm a trucker always on the lookout for a good place to eat, which is a hard thing to do because I can't just park anywhere. Luckily, there's a dirt lot a couple doors down from this place where I can fit my truck and park overnight - plus the gas station across the street is 24 hours. If not for that, I wouldn't be able to include the beverage menu which is phenomenal. Margaritas are authentic - real limes, juiced upon order and decent tequila choices. My lady complained about her Medori Sour but she's always complaining. They at least weren't skimpy on the alcohol. The food - top notch. This goes down in my top 3 favorite places in the Midwest. It's fine fine dining quality with bigger portions and better prices. You're still paying for it, it's not priced like Applebee's. But like everything else - you pay for what you get. Between the two us the bill was $168 not including the tip. Mind you, we both had steaks and ordered burgers to go. There's nothing unreasonable about their prices. Last time we were there I ordered the Tomahawk. It's 2.5 - 3lbs- they take into account that it's bone in, but these steaks are rated by their cut, not by the cow. They aren't going to bother selecting any bad cuts. It was market price, I don't remember how much and I didn't care. It was so good I ate the whole damn thing. Wait staff never fails to earn $100 tip from me. Friendly, social, drink never gets empty - they do it all the way it should be done. If ratings went to ten stars I'd say it deserves the "Nigel tuffnel boost" to eleven. "Because it's...
