So exciting to have a new dining option in Central City! El Agave Central City is owned by the same great folks who brought El Agave to Minden and Holdrege.
Summary: good, reasonably authentic Mexican food in a clean and friendly atmosphere with quick, friendly service. Parking is available in front, in back, and surrounding streets. Takeout is available. You should try it.
I think the only bad thing I have to say about this restaurant after five visits is that their exterior signage is lacking. This may be because it hasn't arrived/been installed yet. But you will need to look for the building (across from Jim's Food Mall and diagonally across from the CC Library).
I have tried many items since El Agave opened, and haven't been disappointed. My favorite lunch meal so far is the chicken chilaquiles: lots of flavorful food for a good price. The chile relleno is made with a light, fluffy batter, and is beautifully cooked and tender. I am not a big fan of the cheese sauce atop the relleno, but there isn't anything wrong with it (just not my style). The poblano relleno is even better.
Speaking of style, El Agave offers the mainstay chips-n-salsa at the table, with the salsa arriving in cute little carafes. I found the salsa too mild, so requested a spicy version and am SO glad I did! Their spicy salsa is hot and full of flavor; if you are a pepper mouth like me, you should try it!
The guacamole is worth ordering (chunky and creamy and yummy!), and I have yet to try a bad dish. One lunch I ordered, the #6: chicken taco with chicken burrito, is the only meal in which I was slightly disappointed. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it, it was just mmm. . . maybe a little uninspired. But not everyone is looking for lots of ZAZZ with their lunch!
They have a kids menu, with Mexican selections along with chicken fingers, hot dog, and hamburger. They have a bar as well and very yummy margaritas!!

Read moreIt seemed It missed my review, well here it is: El Agave exceeded all expectations! The food was absolutely excellent, with a wide variety of choices to suit every taste. The service was top-notch—fast, efficient, and incredibly friendly.
One thing that truly impressed me was how they handled spice levels. Many restaurants tend to tone down the heat, especially for guests not accustomed to bold flavors. But at El Agave, when I requested spicy food, they went above and beyond. When I said, "hot like the summer in South Texas," they delivered exactly that—perfectly balanced heat with an abundance of flavor. From the very first bite, it packed a holy "wow" factor, making the meal unforgettable.
Everything about this restaurant is praiseworthy, from the authentic flavors to the reasonable prices. If you’re looking for an outstanding dining experience, El Agave is the place to go. Highly...
Read moreLove the fact that we finally have a new place to eat in town. This is our 3rd time here since it opened and we love it. It’s getting really busy as everyone else has found out about it. The only reason I didn’t do 5 stars is because tonight was the first time I we have had any issues. My margarita was a little under flavored and they forgot the sugar rim and I didn’t get the exactly what I ordered but they fixed it right away and they are really great to deal with. This is probably our new place to go for a while. The food is great and well priced. A family can go out for the same as a fast...
