My wife and I strolled in to the restaurant around 7PM on the night before Thanksgiving. The Bistro looked busy and many of the tables were full of chatting people enjoying wine, dinner, and discussion. With all of the dull din of conversation, the environment felt warm and inviting.
We were promptly seated at a table, and reviewed the menu of wines and food. Unfortunately, it seems we may have been lost in the shuffle, as we then waited for nearly 25 minutes before receiving a welcome from the server. 25 minutes of waiting without even a hello or a glass of water or the offer of a drink once we were seated.
However, when we were finally able to order our wine (which took 1 minute from order to at the table) and our food came out rather quickly. I went with a Cabernet and my wife with the Zinfandel. Both pours were generous sizes (dont let the menu prices fool you) and the wine was quite delicious.
For our food selection, we ordered a bunch of the appetizers to pair with our glasses of red wine. The appetizers arrived very quickly after we had ordered. The fried ravioli was slightly overdone, but the crispy delicious shell combined with the alfredo, pesto, and marinara sauces was quite superb.
The bread that came with the olive oil was as light as air and perfectly spongy. The steak bites served with blue cheese were perfectly fired -- each had a medium center. The exterior seasoning was simple but scrumptious.
And finally, the parmesan and truffle fries were well-seasoned and the jalepeño aioli was a delectable treat.
After our initial long wait for service, we were contemplating just getting up to leave, but I'm glad we stuck it out. The manager made our experience better by offering to comp our wine. Now, we didn't ask for the comps, and we didn't complain about the service. But the awareness of the staff to know that they dropped the ball on providing good service initially speaks volumes to the credit of this establishment. I think we legitimately just fell into a service void.
We left the restaurant very happy. We will be back. We look forward to getting the better end of service the...
Read moreAmazing restaurant and the best place to get a steak without going to downtown Minneapolis, and far less expensive than downtown Minneapolis. Small family owned restaurants that support other small family owned businesses and offer higher quality food and drink are so important for our local community and economy and this place exemplifies this seamlessly. Places like this rescue our quiet little suburbs from the big box Chili's, Applebee's, TGI Friday's and the like (those places are good but cookie cutter and big corporate). Every single thing I've ever eaten here is excellent. They have a great rotation of local tap beers and high quality yet affordable wines. They make very good cocktails. They even have an Old Fashioned with good whiskey choices and Luxardo cherries! The service is top notch and most of the time, someone from the owner's family is on site and will let you know they appreciate your business. From its unassuming and non-pretentious perch in a Champlin strip mall, this place shines as the best restaurant (IMHO) in the NW suburbs (and I eat out a lot) and I'm grateful not to have to go into the city to enjoy such an awesome dinner experience!! On top of all this, they feature wine, beer and spirit tastings, live music and have a sweet little bottle shop next door where you can buy bottles of the same stuff you get to try in the restaurant and a whole lot more! Thanks Phil, Madison and Pour! team for having such pride in what you all do. Denise and I will keep coming at least a few times a month and know that we will never be...
Read moreWhere do I begin!? I'll start with disappointed. I went here for dinner on Valentine's Day in hopes that this would be a great experience as I have had in previous visits. I couldn't have been more wrong. First thing, obviously it's was a busy night, so I knew I would have to be patient. We were not even greeted within the first, I'd say, 10 minutes. The staff seemed to be overwhelmed. Staffing shortage? I have frequently been here for dinner and knew exactly what I wanted for apps and dinner. First was the strawberry avocado wontons. Usually very good but this time way overcooked and burnt. Next came dinner. The house burger has always been my favorite burger due to the bacon jam. It seems they changed the flavor, and now it's too sweet, came with a burnt bun, and the patty was over charred, nothing like what it used to be. A HUGE miss. I know what you're going to say... "Why go to a wine bar for a burger?" I'm telling you it used to be a fantastic burger. But It doesn't stop there. We ordered a glass of wine that never came. We never had anyone come and check on the quality of food either. After we were done eating we asked about the wine and were met with "oh I ordered it. Well, I'll remove it from your bill." There was no sorry or anything just more poor service. I have to say this has left a terrible example in my eyes and now seems very doubtful I'll go back to this particular place. Be leary of going here as there are other reviews stating the same issues within the last couple of weeks which I wish I would...
