While on vacation in Phoenix, we decided we wanted some sushi. After searching for stuff in our area, we decided to try this place based on some positive reviews. Unfortunately it wasn't as great as the reviews made it sound. Maybe sushi is different in AZ, but it was nothing like the good places I'm used to in Orange County CA.
Problem one was the extremely slow service, expecially for the 3 of us in our party that ordered all u can eat. We ordered our first round at the same time that the non all u can eat people in our party did. About 10 minutes later, they brought out the non all u can eat food. A few minutes later, we ordered grilled steak and rice for my son. About 10 minutes later, his food came out, but the 3 of us eating all u can eat were still waiting. A couple of minutes later, they brought out the appetizers. By this point, the others in our party were done eating, but the all u can eat people hadn't received our first serving yet. Finally, about an hour after ordering, we received our food. We ate it, and we're hesitant to put in a second round in fear of taking another hour. We did decide to go for round 2, and that took about 30 minutes. We were done after round two and 2 1/2 hours in the place, since we had 5 children who were getting restless.
Problem 2 is that my wife ordered a rainbow roll. She didn't look at the menu, since this is a very typically roll (assorted fish on top of a California roll). She orders these all the time, and although different places might have slightly better fish, it's usually the same. When here food came out, she started eating it, and realized that it tasted different. She looked, and saw that there was cream cheese in the roll. Who puts cream cheese in a rainbow roll. She was disapointed.
Problem 3. Some of the fish was very rubbery. I understand that phoenix is not the closest city to the ocean, but it was close...
Read moreI found this place a year ago, by driving by. During that time I was not a huge sushi fanatic. The most adventurous thing I would eat was shrimp tempura rolls. And avocado rolls. I was really craving avocado, so I went in and checked it out. I've tried many many avocado rolls at sushi restaurants, but Mido had proven to be #1. The avocado is always fresh, and the roll is delicious! After my first visit I was hooked.
Since I found this place I go at least once a week. My sushi knowledge has expanded and now I can say I eat real sushi. I got over my fear of raw fish, and take pleasure in ordering all kinds of rolls. The ingredients are always fresh. I have yet to be disappointed, and I'm a regular. They always start you off with a miso soup and a salad. They're super tasty. The salad has ponzu sauce, which you can also order a side of for your meal.
Their prices can't be beat. It's very hard to find good quality food for a low price. They offer a 50% happy hour menu with lots of choices. Happy hour is all day mon-thu. They also offer all you can eat sushi for about $22. I usually am way too stuffed to be able to eat enough to justify it, so I stick to happy hour. I have not once gotten sick eating here, which I can't say the same for other sushi restaurants. I always come back to Mido.
Very friendly staff, I love coming here and will continue to bring family and friends to Mido. Everyone I've brought has been amazed at the quality and prices of the sushi. Great...
Read moreThis is such a long and overdue review for my FAVORITE sushi spot. We have been going to Mido sushi for close to 5 or 6 years now and have yet to be disappointed with anything we try. Chance is fantastic and we get top tier service anytime we walk through the door. You are greeted as you walk in and also acknowledged on your way out with a “Thank you very much” from the main sushi chef. This local, small owned business deserves all the recognition in the world for being so fantastic.
The food is AMAZING. You get great sized portions for a great price. The fish is always fresh and tasty. The photo I have added is from years ago but the food still always looks the same!! I have, again, never been disappointed with any of the food from here. The flavored sakes are delicious, the flavored sojus are delicious and beers are cold! Seaweed salad is fantastic, the tuna is, the salmon is, EVERYTHING IS FANTASTIC.
Over the years, we have spent birthdays, date nights and an engagement here. I don’t go to any other sushi spots since this place has time and time again shown why I love them.
Thank you Mido family for all the love over the years and the fantastic food. I don’t have many photos to share since I’ve been such a long time goer but if you haven’t tried this place yet, give it a try! You will not be...
