I cannot say enough good things about King Pollo. It doesn't boast secret menu items, special breed chicken, celebrity super chef in the back conjuring up thimble size food using secret ingredients. It does 4 things well from my perspective (..... translation: I buy takeout from here at least 4 times a month ordering these):
Now there are several other items that look stellar like the fresh hand made pupusas and several other saltado dishes. King Pollo caters to the hard-working, labor-intensive folks that keep the DC Metro area businesses running. I know that Bravo Chicken just opened up across the street but their menu can't compete with all the things that King Pollo is good at. In fact, it is because of us eating King Pollo chicken for lunch yesterday that caused us to find more Peruvian food like Bravo Chicken located across the street that same day. So great job and...
Read moreI've been working in the area for over 2 years now and have tried almost every restaurant up and down rt. 50 but finally decided to try King Pollo today. Today is also the first time I decided to write a restaurant review. Coincidence? I think not.
My meal was the 1/4 white chicken with a side of mixed vegetables and beans & rice. The chicken was so very good. It had this blackened crispy skin that worked so well with the chicken. Very flavorful, moist and well seasoned. The best thing was this mayonnaise-y sauce they added on the side...good lord. So good. The beans and rice were well seasoned and very tasty. The steamed mixed veggies were okay, I should have used some salt to perk them up but whaddaya gonna do? It's mixed veggies. Next time I might choose the potato salad. That looked good.
I made the mistake of ordering ahead, which is totally unnecessary because they box it up for you on the spot in a minute. The topper was that this huge, amazing, filling meal only cost $6. Recently I've been going to Wendy's next door and getting a large salad and burger for $9 and now I feel...
Read moreNever had a bad experience here. I've only dined in once, been ordering to go ever since. I get the half chicken meal usually with two sides of yuca or fries, or one yuca/fries and one onion salad. I've had the fried rice twice before, once was good, the second time not so much so thats why I usually stick with the yuca/fries/onion salad. Not to sound rude but the other sides don't look very appealing to me. I've also had their pupusas which are very good and the Lomo Saltado which was also very good. The chicken is very flavorful and usually very moist, and goes very well with the onion salad. There's no real consistency with the spiciness of the green sauce; some times it's very spicy, other times very mild, but still good either way. It can get crowded so I usually like to order online and then just walk in and pick it up, but if they're extremely busy there still may be a...
