My husband has been trying to get me to try Pho for years now and we had a day off together so I thought why not. Let me start off by saying I am a very picky eater but I always find something I can eat wherever I go. That being said I like to know what is in my food. Well the waiter was VERY rude and I asked him what was in it he looked at me like I was dumb and was like I dont know. So my husband asked what my meat choices were and he said fat, round, or flank.....so I went with both the flank and the round. I asked well else is in there and he gave me an Ugh and said Pho.... So I said fine and also ordered the crab eggrolls cause I love crab. When the food comes I see that there is green onions and cilantro covering the top...I HATE both of those herbs and if he had told me that I would of said I didnt want that. And yes my husband should of known and told me that but he always forgets that stuff. That being said it was an easy fix I just scooped out all that I could with my spoon and then just picked out any bits that hit my mouth. I have to say after I got that out I really enjoyed the soup. The eggrolls....the first one wasnt too bad...a little too on the bad fishy side but still ok. The second one was too much on the bad fishy side and totally soggy so I only had one bite. My husband got the chicken bowl and I tried it and likes it. The waiter ignored us after bringing the food and then seemed put out and was rude that we asked for our check. And being that we were one of only 3 tabIes that had customers. I give the food a 6 and the service a 1. My husband was sad that he took me to that one for my first time and wished he had brought me to...
Read morePho 98 is the many wave of noodles shops that opened during the pho crazy in NoVa. This unassuming restaurant tucked in a shopping strip seeks to attract the locals who don't want to make the trek to the Mecca of Pho places in Falls Church and the surrounding lunch crowd. Did they succeed?
Like most Asian restaurant it is minimal décor of cafeteria style tables and chairs but one must always have to have a crystal chandelier. It is much classier if you have a crystal chandelier. The menu here is a bit more than Pho but also rice dishes. They have the same variations large/small with a variety of meat accompaniments. The noodles tasted fresh and the meat/noodle/broth was a good ratio. But Pho is all about the broth and most usually fail there. Pho 98's broth was decent. It was a bit dull and wasn't as flavorful compared to other places I've been too.
On the whole though yes, I would go here for my Pho fix when I don't feel like venturing out of the 'neighborhood.' I think if they gave a boost in flavor with the broth I might even dare say they might be almost comparable...

Decided to try this place out with a friend on a nice cold day that called for some soup.
The Food: I went with my go to Pho pick, a large bowl of Pho Tai Nam. I was also kind of hungry, so I had to pair the bowl of Pho with a crispy spring roll (Cha Gio). For the Pho, the broth was rich in flavor by itself and adding some fresh basil and bean sprouts added a nice balance to the bowl. The meat quality was okay, I've had better quality meat but it was still tasteful. A very good bowl of Pho nonetheless.
The Service: The service was great! We were seated almost immediately as there were plenty of seating in the restaurant. Our orders came out in a timely manner as well.
The Atmosphere: There was plenty of seating here and the place was clean!
Overall, a 4/5! Definitely a recommended spot for Pho...
