River House Cafe — Restaurant in Charleroi

We visited here prior about a year after they opened and liked the food and appetizers. We returned yesterday to see they were surprisingly busy for a Monday. Kids loved the pizza. I tried it and was surprised how it was just as good as a pizza shop. Most restaurants don't serve decent pizza outside a pizza shop so A++ there. Prime rib sandwich. Oh wow. Pieces of prime rib that melt in your mouth, dipped in sauce. Very good. Wife loved her seafood pasta. Spinach artichoke dip served with fried pita pieces like it should be. Honestly this is why we came there, I saw that on the menu and had that craving. I was not disappointed. Enough dip to take home for a midnight snack. Food portions are generous. My French dip with fries was $14, that's darn good. Consider what you pay at fast food for barely edible food. A few dollars more and you get soooo much more here. Mixed drinks were prepared well and you got what you paid for. Honestly. Not cheap but you seriously get a very nice drink and likely don't need more than one for a typical dinner. Only downside of this entire place is that Charleroi is going downhill quickly. Some sketchy people around. But no worse than going to most locations in Pittsburgh. It was just noticable to me having loved and lived in Charleroi many years ago. Back when there were department stores , a great Italian restaurant, and many other thriving businesses that are all boarded up now. River house Cafe is all they have left. This place is a gem. I will be a regular again now. Visit it and witness a really nice vibe and decore inside. Great food, and the employees there are awesome too. Our waitress was super nice...

Go one time, and you’ll quickly fall in love. This stunning expansive restaurant is what we call our “home base” for a meal out. River House is the perfect location for anything from a date to hosting a large event. If you’re looking for a cozy booth tucked away, you’ve got it. If you prefer a more open feel with high tops and flat screens ( sports fans will be more than pleased), they’ve got you covered . When you enter you’re immediately greeted by the cozy yet swanky interior, with their nostalgic spinning door entry, and velvet couches in the waiting area. The updates the new owners have done have kept the original charm while adding some modern upgrades keeping the place clean and fresh.

If you’re anything like us, it’s a struggle finding a restaurant where everyone in the family can find multiple menu items they enjoy. River House offers such a broad and incredible menu, there is literally something for everyone. Add in the incredible daily and weekend specials, and you’ll always have something new to try.

If you are a dessert lover you came to the right place. They have an ever changing menu of incredible cakes, cheesecakes, tiramisu, cannolis, etc. 🍰 which can be browsed from a massive glass case.

We have always had wonderful service, although we are partial to our favorite waitress, Lindsay. If you’re dinning in keep a look out for one of the 3 owners, as they usually will be popping by tables to say hello.

River House is a staple to the Charleroi community with a constant aray of events and local fundraisers- proving they’re not just about good food, but also about good karma.

My coworkers and I chose to go to River House Cafe for lunch. We all collectively agree, the waitress Linsey deserves 5 stars. Linsey greeted us with a smile. She was friendly, attentive, outgoing, and eager to please.

On the other hand, when the food arrived, two of my coworkers food was not prepared correctly. One of my coworkers ordered a well-done Jack burger, the other coworker ordered a medium-well Jack burger. The burgers they received were medium-rare. When the waitress returned to our area, my coworkers showed the waitress their food after confirming the order was written down accurately.

The waitress offered to replace the orders. Unfortunately, we had been in the restaurant for 35 minutes and could not wait for a second order to be prepared. We asked for a discount on the ill-prepared burgers. The waitress went to the cooking area and returned to report our request was denied. We then asked to speak with the “boss”. The “boss” would not come out to speak with us. I told the waitress I will be documenting our experience in a written review. I was hoping my remark about sharing what happened with our food would motivate the boss to come to our table to have a conversation. The boss refused to meet with us. We paid for our food and left.
