I am not the the type to write reviews but felt like our experience warranted one. In planning our wedding we heard about Pig Eatin Ribs and added to our list of places to check out. Our first experience was at the restaurant to speak with someone regarding catering our event and trying some food. We were informed that we would have to set up a tasting and that the menu for catering and at their brick and mortar was not exactly the same. We were given contact information and catering menu to setup a tasting. My fiancé and I wanted our family members to join us for the tasting while visiting for the holidays as we were celebrating in the up north area and would be convenient for all of us. Emails were sent out to setup dates and food that we were considering from their catering menu as well as other details pertaining to the event such as tableware and pictures of the events they have had to show how it was setup and presented. Upon the day of our tasting we arrived at their restaurant and excited to eat from their catering menu. To our disappointment we were only offered the items from their menu on the restaurant that were available that day. Mind you the proteins we tasted that day were excellent and the sides were decent. However the issue was that we were told a tasting from the catering menu and we expressed the items we were considering in order to help narrow down there extensive menu. They were unable to deliver what we asked for and the pictures we asked for were not delivered either. During our “tasting” we inquired about the reviews they had received specific to catering and we were told that there was miscommunication and Heidi was very eager and quick to blame the customer. When asked about why we are not having a tasting from the catering menu the attitude changed and we were told that it was stated in the email. When we reviewed our emails we could not find anything clearly stating that we would not be trying items from the catering menu. We could have easily ordered off the menu in their restaurant and avoided wasting 3.5 hours of our vacation, the tasting and the 100$ charge which would be applied to our bill if we went with them. All in all the food was above average and good. However we decided that it wasn’t in our best interest to do business with them based on what they said to us and how we were treated. They fell short in providing us what we asked for and we felt that it would only continue if we used them as a caterer. I held off 3 weeks writing this review in hopes the owner would return my phone call so I could discuss the issues we had experienced but have yet to hear...
Read morePigs Eatin' Ribs catered our outdoor wedding in Bellaire, MI in July 2017. We were really excited to have them cater our wedding they had good reviews and did a good job communicating with us before the wedding. However, we ended up being really disappointed in their service for our wedding. There were several things that we had agreed upon with Matt, including explicitly stated in our contract, that did not happen as agreed upon: • Platters and Servingware: They didn’t come with servingware for a family style dinner, it was in the contract, and asked the grooms mom for it an hour before the wedding. Salads were supposed to be individually plated instead they used platters which led to a shortage for the main course. • Speed of Service: Serivce was really slow over, over an hour for the parents of the bride/groom to get served (partially because of the platter issues) and with no organization (some tables got seconds before others got firsts). • Food Quality: The food overall tasted good (pulled pork, chicken, mac n cheese, and veggies) but was mostly served cold and pears on the salad were brown. • Food Quantity: We ran out of food before everyone had eaten and this is considering we paid the upcharge for a family style meal. This was in part due to the disorganization of serving and in part due to just being short. • Details: Didn’t do the agreed upon napkin fold, didn’t move the truck out of picture view when asked.
They were the most expensive part of our wedding and the only part that we had anything negative to say about. There were just so many things that didn’t go well. We brought up these issues with the organization after our wedding they didn’t acknowledge our concerns and told us management would follow up with us, that never happened. A word of caution if considering Pigs Eatin Ribs for an outdoor...
Read moreWould NOT trust this place for catering. Was planning to use them as a caterer for our wedding and decided not to after our experience. Just read their other negative reviews, it shows a consistent theme. Went to their location for a food tasting and was seriously disappointed. Upon arrival, we did not get to taste all of the food on our list. Never once were we told that these items would not be provided at the tasting, even though they knew ahead of time we couldn’t taste a majority of the items. More than half of the items we came to taste were not served. We drove over 3 hours to this location, this was a serious disappointment. To top it all off, we were told AFTER WE TASTED THE FOOD!! It would cost $100...... for 4 sides and two servings of meat. The only reason we paid was because we were told this would be deducted from our invoice if we chose them and we felt pressured that we had to pay. Then 4 weeks later we finally get a contract and see multiple fees that were never mentioned. We asked for a refund based on the lack of transparency, and shady way in which we were asked to pay for the tasting. We asked three times with no response whether a refund would be processed or not. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! food we tried was pretty good though, just wish they cared more about their customers and did business in...
