Had an extremely negative experience at Chatham Perk on Orleans Road this morning. I work out at Chatham Works which is next door. This morning when I arrived and parked I heard barking coming from the car parked next to me. It was 85 degrees and the car was parked in full sun. The windows were cracked about an inch or two. Knowing that the temperature in a car parked in the sun can reach over 140 degrees in minutes even with the windows cracked, I went into Chatham Perk to see if the owner of the dog might be in there. I spoke to a young man behind the counter and told him about the dog in the car. He very rudely waved me away. I then asked the customers there if anyone had left a dog in a car and one of the customers told me he had done so and told me to mind my own business. I went back to the counter to try to see if something could be done and again the same employee waved me away. I then went to Chatham Works and told them and they were quite concerned. An employee there said she would watch the car and make sue the owners came out within a few minutes and if not she would call police. I watched with her and luckily the owners did come out within a few minutes. But the Chatham Works employee understood the seriousness of the situation while the Chatham Perks employee showed nothing but disinterest and contempt. After my workout I went back to Chatham Perks to get a post workout latte and I spoke to the same employee. I was hoping to be able to impress on him how a dog in a hot car in the sun in 85 degrees is an emergency, but he told me he has two disabled dogs and then he stomped away shouting “I don’t have time for this!” Not quite the attitude you would hope for. I will have to think very hard about whether I will remain a Chatham Perk customer after this experience. Clearly the staff needs some education about the dangers of leaving animals in hot cars.
Response from the owner is a lie. I was not aggressive …I was polite at all times. It was her employee who was rude and aggressive . She did not follow me out and I don’t know why she stated that ״clearly I was very upset” as I never met her. It is appalling that this business owner would stoop to telling such untruths. Suggest you steer clear of this establishment.
Regarding the owner’s second response, my husband owned a small business for 47 years and would never respond to a customer review in such a hateful way. You did not follow me out to the car. I did not go back to the car. If you re-read my statement you will see that after leaving Chatham Perk I went next door to Chatham Works for my class. If you need me to supply a witness to that fact, I will be happy to. I have never met you. We did not “converse” at all. If anyone needs to apologize is is you and your employee.
Regarding the owner’s comments about speaking to me in the parking lot, I don’t know to whom she was speaking, but it wasn’t me. She should try to get her facts straight before making false accusations. Going forward, I will continue to try to help dogs locked in hot cars on summer days despite rude coffee shop...
Read moreLooking for someplace to enjoy a delicious meal or treat on a rainy day? Look no further. Stopped in for lunch with friends today and could not have asked for a better experience. I'm not a big fan of either cold cuts or pretzel rolls but the Pleasant Bay sandwich just seemed so appealing today that I decided to give it a try. Best choice I've made in a long time. The turkey was delicious, the veggies very fresh, and the slice of Gouda cheese thick and satisfying. The real surprise for me was the roll. It was subtly flavored and just the right softness, with a perfect density to hold the whole sandwich together. I ate the entire thing - which is something I rarely do when I eat out - but It was so good, I didn't want it to end. I've had many of their pastries over the past few years and have never once been disappointed. Brownies, cookies, scones - all excellent. And don't even get me started on their eclairs! They are huge and so very very scrumptious. I dare you to find another one as good. The staff is fast, efficient and friendly. Even when you're just visiting, they make you feel like a welcome local. They have refreshed their decor since my last visit and though I thought it was fine before, it pops now with a nice mix of art and nature. So, rainy day or not, in Chatham or not, it's definitely worth the trip. And when the weather warms up it's the perfect place to pick up your beach food. (Plus - it won't break the bank.) But don't take my word for it, go see...
Read moreold bagels, grumpy service... we drove here half hour for a "nice breakfast" as advertised by other reviewers... just to be greeted by a sleepy lady and be served old bagels with tasteless egg... the "gourmet" lemonade was all chemicals, not a trace of real lemon in it. the "hashbrown" clearly heated in the microwave, all stuck to the paper that it was wrapped in... we were never asked if we want it here or to go. the "espresso" was lost in a large paper coffee cup. seriously? you don't even have small paper cups? . Yes, it's 6:30am... but am I unreasonable to expect fresh food and nice service at this hour? (Especially after asking "what do you have that's fresh?"). I'm usually generous with tips, but this breakfast doesn't deserve any, considering half of it ended in the trash... going to the store to get some eggs to make fresh...
