Saw the commercial for this place on local channel. In the commercial I saw fire and health department violations. (Fire violation) the plug with the open gap beside it next to the steamer, amongst the (health violations) the dirty old greasy drawers on the back end of the deep fryers,( dark brown blotches amongst light colored new frying oil is not a sign of cleaning daily). But to give it a chance I went there to see what was up with an open mind. I figured they are using a lot of church pics on their site and with a little investigating found out they are a church backed organization. So they should be very welcoming to any new people of any race and eager to please all patrons. I got their (so) called WORLD FAMOUS fried crabs, and an order of their (fresh) fish somewhat hoagie. The fish looked like a minnow compared to the bread it was swallowed by. The crabs smelled like the oil they cooked it in which is a sign that the oil was not fully up to temperature. Got it to go and asked for some old bay and some hot sauce. Not to much to ask for right..... well after waiting for 23 minutes for my food and asking the lady with dreads once earlier how much longer, she said rudely (IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE U WAAANNT!) Jus wait it's much worse. Guess what, no hot sauce in the bag when I checked later. Took the food to my friends place of work and ran some simple standard test. Bags were closed and not opened til in a sanitary area. (That's when I didn't find any hot sauce dang it). If they (Eddie's crab house) would like a copy of the results just leave me a message, I will forward it to you gladly. A copy will be sent to the health department on Wednesday November 15 if my next visit before then turns out the same. Took 2 days for all results, but can't for legal reasons post them on here. I can say I didn't have a bite......... hopefully Eddie's will clean up their act, I mean we need local businesses to do the right thing for their community for local jobs and pride in their selves. Don't just because you been open for a time get lackadaisical in the way u run and take care of your business, customers, and community. I got faith in all who want to do the right thing. The lords Ball is in your court Eddie's.......make...
Read moreEddie's Crabhouse is despicable. My family has been going to that Crabhouse for nearly 40 years even through all the ownership and name changes. I have always tried to support the business despite being warned by numerous people that it's not the same. I decided to order my dad a dozen large crabs and a pair of fried crabs for his bday. As we cracked open the crabs we noticed that we were getting mushy crabs. Out of the 12 crabs we opened 8 were mushy. I called to let them know and the girl who answered the phone said she would give my info to the owner. The owner never called me back. I called again and the girl said she would replace my crabs but they conveniently didn't have any crabs that day. I called the next day and she said they didn't have any crabs. Yet they are open for business? I asked if she could call me back and let me know when they would have crabs. Surprise, surprise she didn't call me back. I decided to call them from another number and asked if they had crabs. They said yes because they didn't realize who I was. I asked them why they didn't call me to let me know they had crabs since they promised to replace my order. They made up an excuse saying they only had medium crabs and that's why they didn't call me. I hear the owner in the background telling the girl working the phone what to say. I ask to speak to the owner and she refuses to get on the phone. Which I find unbelievable. What's even more unbelievable is that a black women would treat her community this way. People are spending their hard earned dollars to be treated like trash. I spent over $50 in your "business" and you can't even give me the courtesy of speaking me over the phone. It's definitely something wrong with that woman's spirit that she thinks it ok to treat people that way. I will never step foot in there again, and I advise anyone else reading this to...
Read moreI have been coming to this place for over twenty years. I remember when the lines use to wrap around to the outside of the building. There were two quaint small booths to dine in when you first walked into the crabhouse. This place was my reason to visit VA. Not to mention the fried crabs were phenomenal. But I guess all good things come to an end. Over the last few years since 2009 or 2010 the taste quality became questionable, Prices skyrocketed. You no longer got a decent amount of crabs for your money. The menu became bigger to try to compensate lose of the crab business, I assume. No one cared about that we were there for the crabs and the batter with the secret seasoning, was to die for! Now when I visit VA I can honestly say I could care less if I dont stop by the Eddie's Crab House but I felt a bit of nostalgia so this past weekend I was in Norfolk VA. Thought just for the heck of it I would go their to get maybe one crab. Yes I know I would end paying over 6.00 but what the heck. Instead they were closed even though they were suppose to be open that day. So I called the next day to confirm if they were going to be open the lady assured me they would be. Anyway I went the next day and they were closed. I went back an hour after they were suppose to be open and they were still closed. (SMH)So sad to see an Iconic black owned childhood staple dwindle to such a...
