Our first visit to Chickamauga was on a Sunday and we found everything closed except Lots Potros and Domino's. We decided we'd come back another day to check out the Welcome Center and everything else and that's when we hit up Los Potros for lunch, after a morning of visiting the rest of the town and researching the area for possible places to move to.
Alex (our waiter) directed us to our table, way in the back and behind the wall... Out of the way of any other customer traffic. It was a nice quiet location, which was actually perfect for us to be able to talk about what we'd discovered about the area. Alex brought up the usual chips and salsa, which were quite tasty, not too salty chips and not too hot salsa... We tried not to eat too many so we wouldn't be stuffed before our meals arrived. I think we did just right.
I was VERY impressed with their menu, as the vegetarian I am, because they had clearly marked veg combos on the back, as well as a lunch menu with veg options, like what I got...
I got the bean "chimichanga" special #17. It came with beans and rice. Since beans and rice and all that were on the "vegetarian menu", I figured they were vegetarian. I didn't ask (if they used lard, and it certainly didn't taste like they did). Alex asked if I wanted Red Sauce and I said "yes". When it arrived, it certainly didn't look like a chimichanga (Alex smiled and said, "This isn't like Taco Bell"). It looked like a tostada. Chalupas are usually shaped like a boat and fried, while tostadas are fried or baked flat. This one was definitely flat, like a tostada. Oh well, whatever it was, it was DELICIOUS! It was refried beans on a tostada shell with lettuce, a slice of tomato (that was just about ripe, but not quite), and a BIG glob of guacamole on top (no red sauce). It was big, and it was messy, and it was so tasty. As for the beans and rice, I took everything that fell off my (chalupa? Tostada?) and mixed it all up with the beans and rice and the rest of the tomato that I had cut into pieces. I didn't think I'd eat it all, but it was so good, before I knew it, my plate was empty.
Hubby got a chicken taco #19 special (beans & rice), and he finished it long before I did. There wasn't a piece of food on his plate when I looked up. It must have been good. 😂
Alex checked on us several times, but not TOO often. He never pressured us to leave, either. In the end, he gave us our check and we paid at the register in front. I'm sure we'll be back to Los Potros when we return to Chickamauga. You should definitely...
Read moreI LOVE a good spinach quesadilla, but here, they use canned spinach-gross! Salsa, obvioulsy NO cilantro, or anything passed watered down tomato sauce. Everyone was dissappointed in our party, with everything ordered bland. The waiter was awlful with no smile or greetings. He never once stopped by to check on us, the food, anything. I asked, yes, very politely, for another salsa, didn't get it, had to remind him, and also to get straws for our drinks? And this is how it ended-he got a container for our food of which I would leave on the checkout counter while being distracted by my granddaughters. The young lady behind the counter never once looked anywhere near making eye contact, not a word until she said 'sign the reciept' and then me having to ask for a copy and she said NOTHING else, her only focus being the cell phone in her left hand! She did not say anything else. As we left to my vehicle, we realized the forgotten food container. I quickly went back inside to the counter and our waiter was off to the left talking to a young girl, I looked around-no food container. So I immediately interrupted him as the young lady behind the counter was glued to her cell phone. I stood between them asking and he responded, "I don't know man, must have got thrown away." She never said a word or even looked off of her cell phone. I have lived 2 blocks away for 32 years and I promise you I will NEVER go back in there. We took a vote and all are in favor to go somewhere else. There are no excuses for some things, but this visit was overwhelmed with too much wrong. Good ridance Los Potros, your customer service is not your priority or quality of food either. You forget there are a lot of very good Mexican restaraunts around the area, you could learn alot hanging out at some of them. Have a...
Read moreIve been here a few times, but I think I'm done with them. The food is decent but not worth dealing with the rude, dirty people that work there. The last few times I've been there we get seated by one guy that takes the order then dissappears, and 2 or 3 people swap out bringing the food etc. while you are there so of course they miss things or get the order wrong almost entirely. They ALL have an attitude and act like they are upset about you being there because they have to do their job, then they go back into the kitchen and screw around having a good time. You have to flag someone down if you need a drink or anything because they all hide in the kitchen like roaches when they can. They are dirty too, I watched more than one of them clear dirty dishes from a table, wipe their hands on their pants then take food from the kitchen to a table. The floors are always dirty and no one cleans them, they'd rather stand around doing nothing. Last time I was there I noticed an open bottle of mayonnaise that was sitting out at room temp. It was there when we arrived, and there when we left. Definitely a food safety hazard, It was probably out all day. They won't serve alcohol either, not even a beer so this was already my least favorite Mexican restaurant that Ive ever been to in the entire country. It doesn't hurt my feelings...
