Not coming back anymore. Visit 1: weekday brunch. 2 people had to ask if our order had been taken before the 3rd person finally took our order. There were 3 staff on the floor. We got our food after another table did, even though we had ordered before them. We had to ask twice for the toast that was part of the meal. Then we were overcharged: $4 upcharge to have a few berries on the French toast (listed as $2 on menu) and $4.50 for hot tea (listed as $4)—it was hot water with an unopened tea bag. When we told the manager about the price difference, he said, “Come back and I give you 20% off next time.”
Visit 2: Sunday brunch. Manager said he remembered us (after we asked if he did) and said he would give us 10% off (not the 20% he promised last time.) Server was much nicer. Latte art was only a simple heart even though the tv screens showed much more complex creations. We were overcharged again: $4 upcharge again for the berries on the French toast (still listed as $2) and $5 for the latte (listed as $4.50). We told the manager again and he looked mad about it. He said, “I give you $5 off” which was already the 10% he promised when we arrived, but the actual charges weren’t changed.
He explained later that prices were changed because minimum wage was changed, but he didn’t know which prices. We told him exactly which prices were off, on two occasions now. And why wouldn’t he know?
Food was ok. Omelette was hearty but a bit oily and eggs overcooked. Chilaquiles were not as flavorful as expected; looked like meat and eggs put on top of a plate of chips with salsa. House potatoes were the only consistent item.
Beware of invisible pricing. If you’re eating here, you’re probably not going to mind the prices anyway (especially if you’re willing to pay the $20 for chilaquiles), but it’d be better practice for a restaurant to be transparent about their...
Read moreThis morning was my second time visiting and no regrets. The ambience is welcoming, clean and classic with a lovely homage to the city they reside in. A beautiful mural depicting Chino’s farming roots sits at the far end of the cafe which happens to be right in the direction of where our farms would be. Something I love and appreciate because I love my town!! I recommend trying the caramel cappuccino because the it is so delightfully roasty. Ask for easy on sweetness, but if you enjoy something sweet you’re in for a treat. It wasn’t excessive I just like my coffee with just a touch of sweet. I enjoyed the pastry options today to pair with our coffees, from palmiers (yes) to scones and cinnamon rolls you can’t go wrong with that. My friend enjoyed her eggs Benedict and potatoes (which are not plain!) which come with a bit of herb seasoning, a slight twist from the classic fare which she really enjoyed. I had the steak chilaquiles w/ scrambled eggs which were really yummy. The steak is tender and flavorful and the plate is a good portion. If you’re a fan of smoked salmon, the smoked salmon bagel was also super tasty the first time I visited. I like the variety. They have their flavors down. Definitely recommend a try. I am very pleased with this cafe and have high hopes that patrons will recognize their charm and eye for flavor. (Maybe hoping for mimosas or bloody Mary’s in the future but regardless I’m very happy this place has opened up :) looking forward to...
Read moreLook I’m going to take a stand for this place because I’ve been coming here since before they had they’re liquor license.
I was going through all the below 3 star reviews and I’m going to be blunt, if you can’t afford a great meal stay home, if you don’t have time to wait for great food cook it yourself, if little things that shouldn’t matter, bother you, get a therapist and I hope you can work it out because you’ll never be successful that way!!!
The entire environment of this establishment is setup to serve legendary quality. The vision from owner to bring great honest food of the highest quality to the community of chino while partnering with local merchants like ranches, farmers and vendors is beyond a five star services. Everyone from the owner to the servers and in between pour their hearts into their craft, Hoguer T. our major-domo today not only provided service transcending expectations but built a personal relationship with my wife and I that I could not be more grateful for. Luisa, the chef, took me to a place with her skilled and most mastery techniques of cooking with every bite, it as if I could visualize her cooking the food with her heart on her sleeve. To all those that I did not have the pleasure of seeing behind the scenes, may god bless you for what you do as you are the backbone of the such greatness that is manifested through this experience.
With ineffable gratitude and love, Omar and Maribel BelZo
