This is a little gem I recently discovered. It's tucked away off of spring Grove avenue near the Western hills viaduct. It's an authentic German pub restaurant. It's located in the first floor of a five-story century old red brick building next to United direct solutions. They have some of the most authentic German dishes I have seen in Cincinnati. They have a nice bar with great beer selection and terrific German desserts. The owner Peter is German and takes orders himself at the bar. He seems to be trying very hard to make his new pub a success. He says he's been open for approximately 2 years and is now trying to get a license to show big screen soccer events. Most of the cooking is done outside in their food truck. Although they also have an indoor oven and did some of the cooking in there. It's a very fun pub style restaurant/ bar. Lots of natural wood, industrial i-beams, natural exposed brick. It's a fun little place to get together with friends for a beer or take the family for lunch or dinner. Very...
Read moreWow! My wife and I had a great "date night" at Kantine. We arrived early, about 3:30 and sat on the couches with a good dark craft beer. Later, we had two types of Schnitzel with Spaetzle and a side of roasted vegetables...all very enjoyable. We finished with the almond cake with custard filling, again, house made and terrific. Not really pricy for these days, all for $70 or so. My only small criticism might be that I asked for coffee several times without receiving it, but then, we were so early that it appeared that only the owners were there and two lovely employees arrived as we were leaving. Oh, they might consider making the entrance a little more appealing, it leaves the impression "what are we getting ourselves into?" LOL. All in all GREAT...
Read moreWhat a gem! So far the best schnitzel in Cincy. My parents (85 and 78) and I all had the Jaegerschnitzel and enjoyed it. All 3 of us think the egg noodles were dry and would improve with the schnitzel sauce. Live band was lovely. Ambiance was great. Location is an oddity but Kantine can rock it on an island. Parking is blah. Service is good. Food was out in 20 despite a packed house. When the weather is rocking go for dinner outside. Staff was confused when I tried to order the special. Cheap food and beer menu prints would have helped. They keep utensils, napkins and such next to the POS which is a total PITA (pain in the a) when people are lined up to order and they need to move...
