I was not expecting much when I headed there for a quick lunch. I paused to read the posting in the windows to get a clue before I stepped in. The sign said "Rated second best hamburger in Cincinnati". That is quite a rating or claim because there are A LOT of hamburgers in Cincinnati. I stepped in and was immediately charmed by the "took half a century to decorate" look and feel. Dark, gleaming wood floors, walls, & bar. 100 year old pressed tin ceiling. Framed pix of notables and framed newspaper articles of Cincy's teams & events. A smattering of diners totally immersed in their chow. I had to order the burger of course. I sat and wondered where I would "rate" my burger. It came out and was presented. Wow,... it looked perfectly delicious. Like these guys had some how mastered some secret method of making the everyday ordinary extraordinary. I picked it up and it "felt good" in my hand. I raised it and took a bite,...awe,..Yes! ...Something extraordinay for a change!. Ummm...I enjoyed each bite wondering how long I could savor it. I slowed down, relaxed, forgot about work, and took the time to enjoy it. By time I finished it and a couple of diet cokes, I was totally rejuvenated and in a different would. I told the bartender that I would now rather forget about going back to work and sit there the rest of the afternoon. He laughed. He knew I couldn't stay. $6.50 tab, $3.00 tip and back to work with a smile and a...
Read moreOh Gaslight and your #4 best burger in Cincinnati, how you taunt me every week....
Gaslight is your typical neighborhood dive bar. And it's great. There's always a game going on on one of the tv's, and no matter what day of the week there are always people in the place, just hanging out, relaxing, enjoying dinner, or beer. They're food is cheap and excellent! They have the 4th best burger in Cincy according to Cincinnati Magazine, and it shows! Personally though, I tend to lean towards their grilled chicken sandwich more. I recommend getting the waffle fries instead of the chips. Delish!
You want beer? You can totally get beer! All sorts of different beers. You want a Smirnoff? Not gonna happen. (although I'd love them to carry one!) Want your beer in a nice frosted mug? Coming right up! I love the frosty mugs! It makes the beer even better in the summer with a big juicy burger. The tables are a little old school, with small benches, but its nice for a small group. They have a tin roof so you won't get cell reception inside most of the time. Except at table #8. But if I come in and see you sitting at my table we're gonna have issues ;) lol
Oh, and there's a parking lot behind the building, and you can either go in the back door under the awning, or through the teeny alley walkway...
Read moreAny time I'm back in the old neighborhood I try to stop at the Gaslight Cafe. I stopped by the Gaslight today to have lunch with one of my oldest friends who I haven't seen in years. Everything was great as usual until I got home and noticed that my shirt was messed up. The whole time sitting in the booth I felt as if my shirt was stuck to the back part of the booth. I also noticed stains in the front I'm guessing came from the tables edge. Not sure if the over cleaning due to Covid - 19 is breaking down the dirt from years of business or whats going on. I'm hoping soaking my polo in Oxi Clean and spraying it with Spray n Wash gets there stains out otherwise I'm out a $60. shirt I may have worn 2-3 times. My being in the Bar/Restaurant business for many years I can somewhat understand this type of thing happening, I'm just hoping the owners, Gary and Aimee and proactive and try to make sure this doesn't happen to other patrons.
I'm happy to say that soaking the shirt overnight...
