We tried to get to the Dosa Man in NYC this week but the heatwave kept us away. We stopped in Albany tonight while traveling and had to hit up the Dosa Grill since we missed out earlier in the week I had the Onion Masala Dosa, wife had Spring Masala Dosa, oldest had Chicken Tikka Masla, and youngest had Chicken Curry. We also got a couple of sides of Vegetable Pakora. The Pakora was so good! Everyone really liked their food. My Onion Masala Dosa was wimpy compared to my wife's Spring Masala Dosa. We tried to order vegan but there was a little bit of a language barrier. She thinks her dosa had some cheese in it. The boys food was really good. They both really enjoyed their dinner. The pakora was a huge hit with them and they liked their naan bread a lot too. The restaurant was pretty busy. It smelled amazing when first walking in. The staff was really nice. And they have Bollywood movies playing so that's fun. I'd be back if we weren't from so far away. Thanks Dosa Grill!

In a word it was disappointing. The chips that came with the meal were just not good, overly salty and blah. I ordered a vegetarian five vegetable dish. The carrots seem to have been frozen. The remaining vegetables the largest pieces were the size of peas. Indeed, It was difficult even to determine what the other three vegetables were. It was almost pre chewed. Not appetizing for me at all. The sauce was tasty... But I've not met a single Indian restaurant that screws up that sauce. The garlic naan and rice were pretty much perfect. The service was not what I am accustomed to here or India. Take my order, deliver my order and nothing else... Except for the water filler... Who kept my glass full. The quality of the vegetables totally turned me off. While some of the other dishes served to the other customers with meat looked great, The lack of attention to detail on this one dish puts this restaurant on my do not return list.

Had heard lot of good reviews from friends, so had to try. We had bhel puri for appetizer, for entrée ordered :paneer frogi masala, spicy chili parantha, garlic naan and dal tadka. We wanted spicy which was well made. Food was very good and tasty, upto our expectations. The entrée comes with pretty good portion of basmati rice. Couple of things..don't know why the entrée is called "frogi" though it is vegetarian. And, though dal tadka isn't listed in the menu but the waiter got it made for us. Service was quick, ambience is good, gluten-free options available and it wasn't crowded maybe because of the weather! But we did see lot of takeout orders. Sorry didn't get the waiter's name but he was very friendly and informed about buffet. And, he got us special dessert "gulab jamun" on their behalf! High recommend for good, tasty and fresh food! Would definitely visit again.

And 2 years later....

Dosa Grill has been my go-to Indian restaurant over the past couple of years, and I have to say they have improved with age (I gave them 4 stars originally). Everything has been incredibly consistent, well-prepared, extremely flavorful and tasty and the pick up orders have been on-time. I will point out that they can really bring the heat if that's what you're after. I tend to order most dishes 'Medium', and this is considerably spicier than most Indian establishments (you should be happy they don't have phaal). Oh, but the depth of flavor - well balanced, savory, with good quality meats and vegetables. They're doing it right, and are easily the best Indian restaurant in the Albany city limits.

Original Review: As always when trying a new Indian restaurant, I order the baseline dishes of chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, samosas and a garlic naan. The samosas were your typical Indian restaurant variety - nothing special there. Chicken tikka masala was well prepared, leaning a bit toward the sweet side interestingly enough; I ordered it 'medium' heat, and while it brought some heat, it didn't incorporate into the dish all that well, as if 'the heat' was an afterthought. Saag paneer was decent, but a bit lacking in flavor profile; the spinach was not fresh, but obviously frozen leading to a bit of a runny feel and bland taste. The paneer itself was quite good. I enjoyed the garlic naan as it had good actual garlic content. This area of Albany desperately needed an Indian restaurant. This was a take-out order. The dining area looked...

Went to the Wednesday buffet, and each time I go, I feel like it gets worse and worse. When I first started going, the food was delicious with good variety of options, fresh, and well replenished, and service was good (water/soda refills in timely manner, brought the check, even came around to all tables with fresh dosas (not usually a buffet item), and let us know when they replenished the naan or the yummy, fresh and hot honey ball desserts). Sadly, all things that made it a great experience are terrible now. In recent weeks (I gave them multiple second chances to prove me wrong - much to my chagrin), service has been horrible (poor/no drink refills - not even of water, cleaning tables vs seating costumers was very poor (multiple staff standing around while tables were left dirty and people waiting to be seated lined out the door), never got the sodas we asked for, had to go up to multiple waiters to get the check (people still waiting outside to be seated with multiple staff not really helping), refills of the buffet itself was almost non-existent (come to this buffet if you just want a salad bar, rice, and sauce with no meat), and the worst crime of all: no more honey balls. Instead of honey balls, the put out the wateriest, flavorless rice pudding known to mankind.

Sad to report I dosa'ed my last...

Our visit to Dosa Grill was made truly memorable thanks to the incredible service provided by Yash and Jassi. From the moment we walked in, they greeted us warmly and made us feel so comfortable. Their hospitality stood out immediately, they were attentive without being intrusive, and always ready to answer our questions about the menu with patience and a smile. The way Yash and Jassi handled everything showed true professionalism and genuine care for customers. They made sure that our food was served fresh, checked in at the right times, and even went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed. It’s rare to come across staff who not only do their job well but also create such a welcoming and enjoyable dining atmosphere. Along with the delicious food, it was their exceptional service that made our experience so special. Yash and Jassi clearly take pride in what they do, and it shows in the way they treat every guest with respect and kindness. We left the restaurant very satisfied and happy, and we will definitely be returning. If you’re planning to visit Dosa Grill, we highly recommend looking out for Yash and Jassi—they will make your dining experience...
